Later that same evening, I decide to pay a visit the library and when walk in there it is as though I had not seen this place in centuries. I had many fond memories of walking along these endless corridors in search of knowledge.

It was as beautiful as I remembered and still had that comforting smell I had always loved from being a child, when my mother had taught me how to read against my father's wishes.

There is no one here at this late hour except myself and I am glad of that fact.

I felt somewhat out of place now after my years living among the mortals, but that would never stop me from enjoying the joy that comes with delving into and becoming lost in a book.

Loki: "Hello, Valanya" his voice echoes suddenly through the library from behind which causes me to turn and face him.

Me: "Hello, Loki" I reply quietly.

Loki: "You look well".

Me: "Thank you, as do you".

There are a few moments of awkward silence between us before he speaks once more.

Loki: "You changed your hair?" he asks.

Me: "It helped me blend in among the mortals. It made things easier I suppose".

Loki: "Are you happy there?"

Me: "I am, although I have missed this place" I gesture to the my surroundings.

Loki: "Not many others can appreciate books the way you do" he smiles.

Me: "That is not what I hear?"

Loki: "Thor told you?"

Me: "He did. I am happy you have finally found a real princess who can challenge you intellectually, one you will not likely tire of".

Loki: "Her name is Milea. She is a sweet girl".

Me: "I am certain she will make a fine queen for you one day".

Loki: "Have you had the opportunity to speak with my mother today?"

Me: "I have spoken with her, but it was not too long before she grew tired".

Loki: "She fades more each day".

I see the tears forming in his eyes as his expression changes so I attempt to change the subject.

Me: "So how have you been for the past four years?"

Loki: "Busy I suppose. While you are here, Valanya, I would like to apologise for my appalling behaviour towards you. I was the one who behaved selfishly that night" he admits.

Me: "I understand why you reacted the way you did and I accept your apology".

Loki: "I should have told you much sooner".

Me: "Perhaps you should have, but there is little point dwelling on the past when we have both moved on from it".

Loki: "Have you moved on?"

Me: "If you are questioning if I have laid with any other men during my absence then no, I most certainly have not" I answer sternly.

Loki: "I have offended you. It is not my place to question your actions".

Me: "No, it is not. I have no interest in mortal men, but as you have said, it is not your place. I am far too busy with my job for such matters anyway".

Loki: "I hear you work in a diner?"

Me: "The owner is a good friend of mine. He and his mother helped me when I first arrived on Earth. They are truly good people".

Loki: "Only a friend?" he enquiries.

Me: "Shockingly, men and women can be friends on Midgard without it leading to sexual relations" I snigger at his question.

Loki: "I simply do not wish to see you hurt again".

Me: "You do not have to see me hurt as I no longer live on Asgard, remember?"

Loki: "That does not mean that I no longer care for you, Valanya".

Me: "If that were true then you would have come for me a long time ago" I state as I begin to walk away from him.

Loki: "Would you have returned with me if I had?"

Me: "I suppose we will never know" I answer before I exit the library.

Once I return to my chambers, I feel myself growing angrier, not at him but at my own weaknesses. How was it that after all these years he still had an affect on me?

I had a new life on a new world, yet I still find myself oddly drawn to him, wanting to hold him close to me and never let him go again.
