I had now been on Earth for little over a month and had been rather enjoying my new role at the diner. It was different from my duties as a palace servant, but it felt good to have this sense of unfamiliar freedom.Hank and Darleen said that business had improved since my arrival due to the fact I have a 'pretty face'. I still do not fully understand what that means.
I had used some of earthly currency to move into nearby lodgings that these mortals call a motel. It was not much, but I called it home.
One morning, an unexpected knock on my door awakens me.
Me: "One moment!" I yell as I get out of the bed.
Upon opening the door, I am hit with a wave of fear and panic at the large figure standing there, towering over me.
Me: "How did you find me?"
Thor: "Heimdall".
Me: "Of course. I suppose you have been sent here to drag me back to Asgard have you?" I sigh.
Thor: "No. I came here to speak with you, that is all".
I allow him entry into my room and he looks around, seemingly unimpressed by my new home.
Me: "I take it that you know the truth by now?"
Thor: "Yes. It was quite the surprise to discover you were also the Jotun servant".
Me: "I apologise for the deception".
Thor: "I suppose I should get straight to the point. Loki wishes for you to return home to Asgard".
Me: "So much so that he did not feel the need to travel here and make that request himself?"
Thor: "This has all been rather difficult for him. He has been heartbroken since your departure".
Me: "Difficult for him? He rejected me or did he neglect to tell you that? I gave him my virtue and the following evening he proceeded to tell me how much I disgusted him".
Thor: "He was clearly upset and did not mean what he said".
Me: "He told me that if I ever decided to change permanently then I should do it for myself, and when I did just that he referred to me as selfish and vane".
Thor: "I am certain he was merely shocked, but I understand that you may harbour resentment towards him for some time".
Me: "I am happy here, Thor. I have a life, my own life where I get to choose my own path. That was all I ever wanted and I have finally found it on Midgard, even if it is not by Loki's side".
Thor: "I understand, I truly do".
Me: "Will you tell your brother that I am sorry for my deception, but I will not apologise for doing what was best for me and I will not be returning to Asgard".
Thor: "Is that what you truly want?"
Me: "It is. Will you also send my sincerest apologies to your mother for leaving without saying goodbye?"
Thor: "I shall. I wish you only the best as I am certain my mother will as well".
Me: "Thank you, Thor" I smile to mask my sadness as he leaves.
I collapse onto my bed after he has left, crying harder than I ever had in my entire life. He knew exactly where I was at this very moment, yet had chosen to send his brother in his place to ask me to return.
If it had been the King that had arrived at my door to apologise himself, I know in my heart that I would have leapt into his arms, forgiven him and returned home, but he had not come for me.
Perhaps he no longer desires me as he once did now that I was no longer the broken, weak creature he had fallen in love with?
