The King was far more fascinated with this realm and it's people than I had originally anticipated. He insisted upon seeing everything so the entire day seemed to pass us by far too quickly. We had such fun while he sampled everything this town had to offer, and I was most intrigued to witness him eating what the mortals call a doughnut.
It was strange to be alone together, without the pressures of palace life looming over him. Freedom suited him well.
Loki: "That was truly wonderful. We must bring some of these back to Asgard tomorrow" he remarks after taking the final, sugarcoated bite.
Me: "I wonder if this was how you felt the first time I went outside into the palace gardens? You definitely seem to have a childlike approach to this place".
Loki: "It is certainly far more interesting here than I ever believed possible".
Me: "Have you ever visited Midgard before today?"
Loki: "I did once, but that was many centuries ago. Our father sent Thor and I to this realm purely for educational purposes. He believed it necessary for us to know the people".
Me: "And what did the God of Mischief learn from it?"
Loki: "A great many things. The mortals were rather scientifically and medically underdeveloped back then. They did not live nearly as long as they do now".
Me: "I envied them for that".
He looks at me with confusion.
Me: "We may live long lives, but most of mine was spent merely existing. Mortals make the most of the time they have, and fill it with such wondrous things due to the fact that they know their time is fleeting".
Loki: "I suppose I can understand. A shorter life well spent is far more meaningful than a long one with little to show for it".
Me: "Come, my love. I wish to show you my favourite place before it closes".
I grab his hand and quickly lead him to the small library near my old apartment. Compared to the library on Asgard it is rather small, but he smiles when he sees it.
Loki: "So this was how my love occupied her time while she was away?"
Me: "Do you like it?"
Loki: "I may have a small confession to make".
Me: "And what is that?"
Loki: "During your absence, there were times when I would ask Heimdall to inform me of your day to day activities. I was already aware that you came here quite often".
Me: "Why would you do that?"
I wasn't displeased with him for his actions, I was simply curious as to his motive behind it.
Loki: "I desired to know if you were well. I suppose in some small way, it eased the longing I felt knowing that you were happy here".
That was rather sweet of him, even if he did occasionally invade my privacy without my knowledge.
Me: "We should go to my apartment"
Loki: "So soon?"
Me: "Not that I am no longer enjoying our excursion, but I rather wish for you to see it".
I could hardly wait to show him the place I had lived for so long. It was no longer my home, but this entire realm and it's people had provided a safe sanctuary for me when I needed it the most.
