It had been two weeks since the King had asked for my hand in marriage and I had gladly accepted. After a brief discussion before we returned to Asgard, the King and I had come to a decision. We had decided to hold of the announcement of our engagement until after my mother was well enough to be finally reunited with my father. I wished to tell them both together.
My father had regrettably returned to Alfheim for a few days, no doubt to inform his brother and whoever else needed to know that my mother is alive and well on here on Asgard.
I have already received word this very morning that he intends to return later this day.
This is glorious news indeed, as my mother's health has greatly improved over this past week and she has now ventured out into the gardens many times.
She no longer requires any assistance to walk and does not tire as easily as she once did. Her appearance is far closer to what I remember in my youth due to the weight she has now gained through a healthier diet.
If she feels ready then my parents can hopefully my parents will be finally be reunited upon my father's upcoming arrival. I am positively overjoyed at the mere thought of it.
It was becoming increasingly difficult to keep the engagement a secret from those I cherish the most, although it did come with many delightful positives.
The secret glances we have shared across the room, the forbidden touches that cause my whole body tingle when no one else is watching. No one knows the truth but us.
As foolish as it may seem, it almost feels as it once did many years ago when neither of us were willing to admit our affections. That was until we finally succumbed to the passion that burned deep inside for one another.
Only in the privacy of our chambers may we speak freely about our upcoming wedding, but I can hardly wait to share the happy news with Ruth, Sara and Milea as well.
Loki: "You are pacing back and forth rather briskly, my love?"
Me: "My father returns today".
Loki: "Are you not pleased?"
Me: "Of course I am. I simply hope that my mother is well enough to meet with him after his arrival".
Loki: "There is no need to feel so anxious. I take it that you intend to inform her of this shortly?"
Me: "I am going to visit with her quite soon. Wish me luck?"
Loki: "You do not need luck, my Queen".
Me: "Shhhh, Loki! Someone may hear you".
Loki: "Let them hear".
His lips swiftly meet mine, and as tempting as it may be to take this opportunity to climb back into bed with him for the rest of the morning, I must resist for now.
Me: "Perhaps we should continue this endeavour at a later time when there are less pressing matters at hand?"
Loki: "Not until you allow me to grant you a small gift".
Me: "A gift?"
The King unexpectedly reveals a silver ring in his hand that has a band of gold flowing through it. An intricate pattern etched onto the gold resembles the branches of a tree, with a singular diamond glistening upon it with such beauty.
Loki: "I believe it may be time that my future bride wore this".
Me: "It is beautiful" I tell him with tears in my eyes.
Loki: "Not nearly as beautiful as the bride whose hand it is to be proudly displayed upon".
He gently slips this ring onto my finger and it fits perfectly.
Me: "What if someone were to see it?"
With a brief flicker of magic from his fingertips the ring disappears.
Loki: "Do not worry, it is very much still there even if you are unable to see it. You will always feel it, just as you will forever feel my undying love for you".
Me: "I adore it".
Loki: "I can hardly wait for others to see it once we have announced the engagement".
Me: "Soon, my love".
Perhaps today could be the day I inform my mother and father?
Would that be too soon? I do not wish to overwhelm them with all that has happened, but hopefully they will be pleased for us once the initial surprise comes to an end.
