(Kisame's POV)
Mid-afternoon and I awoke to small whimpers. I groaned a bit and sat up looking around to figure out where the noise was coming from. Turning to Itachi's bed, I shot up and ran to his side. He wasn't awake, but his body was trembling and sweating a bit in the process. His facial oxygen mask fogging up more than it should be.
I pressed the emergency button on the side of the bed which ran an alarm causing some nurses to rush in.
Doctor: What seems to be the problem!
Kisame: I don't know, he just started shaking that that!
I stepped aside as he pressed his stethoscope on Itachi's chest and listened carefully. He frowned a bit and began checking his eyes with a small flashlight.
He pulled a small syringe from his white doctor coat and removed the cap.Kisame: What is that?
Doctor: It's a sedative, but I'm not giving him the full thing, just a bit to calm him and relax his muscles.
Kisame: Why is that?
Doctor: Though he is asleep, his brain is still quite active. That's how he can still hear you. I assume he's trying to wake up, but his body isn't letting him, so he's trying to do it himself. We can't risk him thrashing around and reopening the wounds around his body, it could be fatal.
Kisame: I understand.
The doctors gently held him still before sticking the thin needle in Itachi's IV and watching him slowly calm down. A sigh of relief left my mouth as the nurses began filing out the room. The doctor removed the needle and turned to me with a very serious face.
Doctor: I want to make something clear with you, sir. We can't administer sedatives to the patient all the time. The risk of an overdose along with damage to the brain can happen. Please try to comfort the patient as he is unconscious.
I looked down at Itachi and watched as his eyes slowly relaxed from squinting to normal. He visibly relaxed and stopped trembling.
Kisame: I'll try.
The doctor passed by me and pat my back once before walking out of the room, shutting the door quietly.
I sat down next to Itachi and brushed his stray hair away from his face.Kisame: You know, that necklace took me a long time to find while I was on the mission with Pain and Konan. I passed a jewelry store and decided to get you a present for your birthday that would last a lifetime. The necklace reminded me of your eyes when they glimmered after being given sweets, especially Dango.
I chuckled to myself and held his hand tightly in my own, feeling the warmth radiating off his skin.
Kisame: That time we were staying with Sasori, I snuck out while you slept and put the present box together with Naruto and the children before hiding it into the closet. I want to give it to you when we were all together the next day. I guess I didn't have the chance to do that for you, and I regret it a lot to the point that I would turn the members into children all over again just to get the chance to do it.
I chuckled once more and played with his long raven-colored hair. The hospital smell had already seeped into his hair, but the slight smell of strawberries and cream still lingered.
*Knock Knock*
I turned my head in the direction of the door before it slid open and Obito walked in.
