//Author's POV//
Throughout the night, the reception continued, and people all over were having fun drinking the night away. Itachi was, however, avoiding any intake of alcohol throughout the night and kept his mind firmly distracted by anything that wasn't involving having to think about personal intimacy with his now husband. Itachi felt like a complete idiot for even worrying since it wasn't his "first time," as Deidara had said. It just bothered the newlywed that Kisame was no guy to take lightly regarding surprises. He was quite frankly full of them, and Itachi didn't want to be caught in the crossfire of Kisame's wrath.
Shivering at the thought, he took another sip of his water and glanced around, only to notice that Kisame was nowhere in sight. His brows furrowed slightly, and he stood from his seat to try to get a better view of the area. People were dancing underneath the hanging golden lights above the dance floor, but there was still no sight of Kisame.
"Are you looking for me?"
Itachi nearly jumped at the feeling of Kisame's mouth near the shell of his ear.
"You startled me," Itachi said before looking at his smiling husband.
"Sorry, but you seemed too distracted not to try at least to startle." Itachi only rolled his eyes and lightly punched Kisame on the shoulder before sitting in his chair and taking a bite of watermelon in his fruit bowl. He smiled in contentment and looked over to Kisame, sitting next to him, just watching him eat.
"What? Do you want some?"
Kisame shook his head and pecked Itachi's forehead, making the weasel freeze. A blush slowly crept up to his cheeks before he looked down. No one seemed to notice the two, which relieved Itachi a bit. That's when Kisame finally cleared his throat to get his husband's attention to speak.
"Come with me; I've got to show you something." Itachi stared briefly, nodded, and allowed Kisame to lead him away from the venue. They only walked a couple of yards from the area when Kisame ensured no one was around to disturb them. Itachi grew a bit worried because he thought something was wrong. However, Kisame assured him everything was fine and pulled out the red envelope Sasori had given him.
"What's that?"
"I don't know, but Sasori told me to open it with you at the end of the ceremony." Itachi nodded slowly and took the envelope away from Kisame before unraveling the red ribbon on it. His eyes only widened at the sight of the contents inside, and tears began to form in the corner of his eyes. Kisame suddenly felt concerned and looked over to see what was written on the paper. His eyes also widened as he scanned over the words neatly written.
Dear Itachi,
Congratulations on finally receiving the happiness you've always wanted if you're reading this. We've both been looking out for you since the time you joined the organization those years back. It also gives us hope that one day, you will finally accept that things happen for a reason and that giving up is okay. Ensure that you two try to stay happy and healthy and take care of Katsumi. He is a good kid and deserves all of the love the two of you can give. This may not be much any others could give to you or Kisame, but we wanted to wish you both a great life.
- Love, Konan & Yahiko
There was silence that followed the reading of the letter before Itachi broke down in tears, nearly falling to his knees before Kisame grabbed him. It wasn't like the two of them ever forgot the two fallen teammates. They were one of the main reasons why they both could be starting the life they've always wanted. A peaceful one with lots of love coming from all sides of their lives. They both felt the sadness in their hearts swell, especially Itachi, who had gotten nothing but support from Konan the past couple of years.
