Lizzie's POV
"Alright, it's time to go," I smiled at Alexis hoping she wouldn't catch on to the fact that once we step off this plane, we are right in the line of fire for the paparazzi.
"Ok!" Alexis said enthusiastically as she pull on the strap across her lap. She seemed so happy to be able to do these things herself now. It reminded me a lot of when she was little and how her eyes would light up when she successfully tied her shoes or zipped up her coat without help.
"Don't forget your backpack," I told her before stepping into the aisle to pull our suitcases out of the overhead compartments. I politely asked and bribed the flight attendant to let us off first, so we can hopefully book it out of the airport. They were not cheap either and as much as I hate to admit it I may or may not have signed a few autographs. It's not my finest moment but I know it'll help. One of them enthusiastically whispered, eBay! before walking away.
Once I had both of our bags down I pulled the handle on Alexis's and waited for her to take it before leading her off the airplane. "Alright hat and glasses on, please," I instructed her as we stopped in the airplane walkway.
"Does this really work?" Alexis asked quirking an eyebrow at me as I tucked her hair in under her baseball cap.
"Well not a hundred percent but it helps," I tell her to try and ease her nerves.
"Where did you learn this? I can still clearly see your face even with the glasses on," Alexis laughed as she playfully pulled the glasses on and off the bridge of her nose.
"It doesn't matter, please just trust me on this," I grinned as she continues mocking me.
"OK, I guess," Alexis sighed loudly.
"Please not again," I laughed at her attitude.
"I didn't say anything bad," Alexis shot back before adding a short, "yet," with a playful smirk. One that could have only been taught to her by Scarlett. How did time did they spend together? I thought Scarlett was working also.
"Oh goodness, I think we might have to skip the trip to Scarlett's you've had enough time with her," I laughed grabbing her hand to lead her out of the walkway.
"What? No! You promised already," she shouted from behind me. I laughed and continued to lead her off the plane. She protested the whole way complaining that pinky promises cannot be broken in a pouty tone.
"Alright, you ready?" I asked interrupting her tangent on what happens if you break a pinky promise. There was some very enlightening news in that explanation, including that she's broken her pinky finger a few times. She and Josh used to make deals that way and by not doing the dishes, he broke a few of her fingers.
"Are we really not going to see Scarlett?" Alexis asked in a small voice that had dropped all the sassy it held earlier.
"Of course we are going to see her, I keep my promises," I tell her sincerely while giving her hand a tight squeeze.
She mumbled something incoherent underneath her breath but it was quickly covered up by a short, "Yayyy!" Her tone seemed happy but her facial expressions were a dead giveaway that she was thinking about something else.
"Alright, remember what I told you, keep your head down and hold on tight," I reminded her. She nods in response keeping her head low before we walk out into the main walkway of the airport. I keep her hand tightly clasped in my squeezing it every so often because it's not just the paparazzi that scare her but so do crowds and JFK on a holiday weekend is crazy. Today was the day before Valentine on a three-day weekend so I'm not that surprised how crazy it is. I'm more worried for Alexis's sake. Every time I glanced behind me she had her head down and was tightly holding onto my hand and her suitcase's handle.
