Lizzie's POV
The alarm rang at six am on the dot and I scrambled to turn it off quickly. Alexis didn't stir much to the noise which meant I was tasked with waking her.
"Lex, Alexis, it's time to wake up, we've gotta get going," I quietly told her. She didn't move or stir at all, so I took my chances and started to remove her hands from around my body.
"No, no, I wanna stay," she whined instantly. I guess she was awake.
"What would you like for breakfast?" I asked hoping maybe if I just ignored her whiny behavior she'd pull it together.
"Nothing," Alexis mumbled as I freed myself from her grasp.
"Okay eggs and a green smoothie it is," I decided for the both of us. I knew if I give in to her pouty behavior anytime soon, she won't be going to school. As much as she doesn't want to go, I'm almost ready to just keep her home with me forever. I just want to shield her from the big scary world.
"Wait, where are you going?" She asked finally sitting up in the bed with tired eyes and messy hair.
"I'm gonna make breakfast, then I'll come and get ready for the day. Why don't you jump in the shower?" I suggested.
"No, I'll come with you," Alexis decided hastily. Sounds like she never lost that separation anxiety from when she was little. It's cute and terrible at the same time. I love having her around all the time but I know it's not good for her.
"How about we cook it together that way we go faster," I decided.
"Okay!" She agreed happily as she pulled my hand to hold hers. I feel like I'm getting deja vu from the last time she attended school.
We headed into the kitchen hand in hand before I directed her to start on the eggs while I made us some smoothies. We both got to work and it didn't take long for breakfast to be ready.
We sat at the kitchen bar to eat together but I tried to eat quickly, knowing that it'll be better if I can get ahead of her and be ready earlier. That way I can also finish packing her lunch. She very reluctantly let me go after I finished my breakfast. When I left I took a quick look at what she had eaten, which was only a couple of bites of eggs and maybe one sip of her smoothie. She isn't a huge fan of the smoothies but they're good for her so I always pour her a small bit of mine just in case she decides she likes them. Hopefully, she eats more, because that would be some much-needed relief we need this morning. We just need to power through and get her to school is what I keep reminding myself because the more I watch her sad face, the more I consider just keeping her home.
I hurried to get dressed in some reasonably nice clothes compared to what I normally wear to set. I wanted to make a good impression. Once I finished drying my hair, I applied some light makeup, which I know will be taken off as soon as I get to set. I then headed back to the kitchen to find her still eating, well eating is a relative term but she was still at the kitchen bar. She had managed to eat most of her eyes but she didn't seem focused on eating at all.
"Lex, why don't you go jump in the shower then I'll come and help you with your hair?"
"Okay," she hesitantly agreed before walking out of the room, leaving her unfinished food behind.
I sighed trying to take a moment to remind myself that school is good for her even if it's starting to kill me that I'm the one forcing her to go. I pulled out her lunch box and began packaging the sandwich and sides I had arranged the night previously. Once everything was nicely organized, I added an ice pack on the top before grabbing a piece of paper to write her a note. My mom always used to write us notes in our school lunches. They always make me feel better when I was stressed or needed a pick me up, so of course, I'm going to write my daughter one.
