Lizzie's POV

After one last big group meeting, we headed home for a quick snack and to pick up the car before going to Alexis's dentist appointment. She was pretty quiet the whole ride home and didn't say much until we were on our way to the dentist's office.

"Do we have to go?" she whined from the backseat.

"Yes, it's important," I replied in a calm tone.

"Are you sure? I haven't been in like seven years and I don't really see a reason to go now," Alexis continued to try and get out of this appointment as I made a left at the stoplight.

"I'm sure, the dentist is gonna make sure you have clean and healthy teeth," I smiled glancing at her through the rearview mirror.

"I could have told you that myself," she huffed crossing her arms clearly not wanting to go.

"Well, this week is press and doctors, then next week we can do all kinds of fun things. We can go to the beach, maybe a few parks, or visit Clayton again?" I said trying to give her something to look forward to. It's not much, but I knew that next week would have a much lighter work schedule.

"How many doctor's appointments?"

"Only four more after today," I tell her as we pull into the parking lot.

"Ughhhhh," she whines loudly.

"I know but it'll be over before you know it," I laugh at her childish response. I don't particularly love her whiny self but I'm glad to see it hasn't left her.

"Sure," Alexis replies rolling her eyes at me. This day has just been a rollercoaster of emotions.

We head into the dentist's office and I fill out the paperwork while we wait for her name to be called. I have to ask her questions about some things because I don't know when the last time she went to the dentist was or if she's developed any new allergies or underwent any other type of dental procedures when she was with Josh. She quickly got frustrated with my questions so I stop knowing she's already nervous and the last thing I wanted to do was add to that feeling.

"Alexis Olsen?" a lady in a white lab coat calls out. I turn my phone off and glance over at Alexis, who is now trying her hardest to not let her shaking be visible. As we follow the doctor down the hallway, I try to place a comforting arm around her but she, passive-aggressively, pulls away shooting me a death glare.  I put my hands up in defense trying to show her I didn't mean to upset her but she had already turned around holding a terrified, yet curious look on her face. The dental assistant lists off a few things as she scans the paperwork I filled out earlier, before telling us that Alexis needs some x-rays.

We head down the hallway to the x-ray room and the lady instructs Alexis to sit in the chair. I watch from the doorway as Alexis looks around trying to take in as much information as possible about her surroundings. I can tell that this is not the lady I briefed over the phone by the speed she's moving at. I'm not mad, I get the whole staff things, but watching Alexis's face become more and more worried by the second, was all I needed to know for my overbearing parent side to come out.

"Um, Dr. Julie right?" I speak up interrupting her progress. To be honest, I was not entirely listening when she was introducing herself, so I wasn't 100% on what her name was exactly.
