Alexis's POV
I wallowed in my self-pity for a bit longer before carefully writing out the vanilla cupcake recipe on the notepad I found on the desk. I didn't want to rip pages out of my notebook, so I hope it's okay that I used this paper. It had a logo on the bottom but didn't seem that crazy expensive or anything.
I trudged down the hall back to the now-empty kitchen. I expected to find Mary-Kate or Ashley down here but neither was in sight. I didn't want to get food out of the cabinets in case they didn't want me to use it, so I just started to set up the various baking items that were already on the counter.
I was off in my own world when Mary-Kate walked into the kitchen practically scaring the crap out of me. "Hey, Alexis, did you get the recipe?" she chuckled a little at my reaction.
"Yeah, here it is, I didn't want to rummage through the cabinets in case Aunt Ashley didn't want me to," I explained nervously as I gestured to the paper in my hand.
"Oh don't worry about it, I dig through her pantry quite often. She always has the best snacks," Mary-Kate grinned at me. I guess the stories are true everyone has at least one crazy Aunt and one overly responsible one.
"Oh," I deadpanned surprised by her reply.
"Yeah, do you want to try one?" she asked me.
"Um, uh," I replied as I fidgeted with the hem of my shirt.
"You don't have to if you don't want to but I'm gonna eat some of her potato chips. She buys the expensive ones," Mary-Kate said with a smug look as she pull down a bag of chips from the cabinet.
I slowly took a few steps towards her before accepting a chip from the bag. She was right these are good. "Good right?" Mary-Kate smiled at me.
"Yeah," I agreed with her.
"Ok, let me know what we need for this recipe and I'll help you get it out," Mary-Kate said setting the bag down and dusting off her hands.
I listed off each item and she either pointed to a specific cabinet for me to get it out or did it herself. As it turns out, Ashley had most of the supplies, but we needed Vanilla extract, cupcake liners, and stuff to decorate.
"I'll send Ashley to go pick everything up," Mary-Kate grinned at me with a mischievous look in her eyes.
"Send me where?" a voice echoed from the living room.
"To the store, we need stuff for our cupcakes," Mary-Kate smiled innocently.
"Great then you can go and pick it up, I'll call the driver," Ashley replied smugly.
"Aw, but I wanna stay with Alexis," Mary-Kate complained dramatically. Why would she want to stay with me?
"That's cute, but here hurry back, we'll work on Lizzie's birthday stuff so you can help with the cupcakes when you get back," Ashley decided. Yup, definitely the responsible one.
"Fine, don't do anything fun until I return," Mary-Kate huffed before disappearing out of the kitchen and a few moments later I heard the front door shut gently.
"She's dramatic," Ashley rolled her eyes before pulling out a notepad from one of the drawers.
"I guess so," I agreed.
"Alright, so the birthday celebration for Lizzie is not tomorrow but the day after, the 16th. We've invited a few close friends but it'll mainly be a low-key afternoon and dinner. It'll be me, you, Mary-Kate, Scarlett, Rose, Roman is working, Boyd and Chris Evans," Ashley listed off.
