Lizzie's POV
I woke up to an empty bed the next morning which concerned me at first until I hear voices coming from down the hall. I quickly got up and headed towards the kitchen where I saw my sisters making breakfast together but my daughter wasn't in sight.
"Hey, you're awake! Happy Birthday!" Mary-Kate said once she noticed I was in the room.
"Happy Birthday Liz!" Ashley smiled from her place by the stove.
"Thanks," I said returning the smile, "where's-"
"She's in my bed upstairs," Ashley cut me off.
"Oh," I said a bit taken back, why wouldn't she just wake me or tell me.
"She woke up extra early, so I just had her lay back down with me," Ashley explained. I was a bit disappointed that she didn't want to stay with me, but I guess I can't blame her, we weren't on the best of terms.
"Oh," I said not sure how to respond. All I knew is it just made me feel worse that she didn't come to me. I was literally right beside her.
"We're making pancakes," Mary-Kate informed me as she continued to dump mounds of chocolate chips into the ones that we currently on the skillet.
"I can see that," I laughed at her.
"These are for Alexis," she told me as she laid the chocolate chips out in a strategic smiley face.
"I'm sure she'll appreciate them," I grinned.
"We made yours with blueberries," Ashley added in.
"Thanks," I smiled at the two of them.
"Today we have a surprise for you but it's after breakfast," Ashley told me since Mary-Kate was concentrating on trying to fix the chocolate chip she accidentally dropped in the wrong place.
"Ok," I nodded, I was still very distracted by Alexis, not wanting to wake me when she woke up.
"You can go check on her, I bet she'll be up soon," Ashley interrupted my thoughts. She's always been able to read people so easily.
"I'll be back, breakfast looks great," I grinned before heading towards the stairs. I took a deep breath as I arrived in front of Ashley's bedroom. Pushing open the door, I peered into the room to see my daughter awake but lost in a daze.
"Good morning," I whispered hoping to not scare her. Her eyes flickered towards me before returning to the wall, it was only a split second but her glare was evident. "Aunt Ashley and Aunt Mary-Kate made you some special pancakes downstairs," I informed her.
"I'm not hungry," she sighed rolling over in the bed.
"Alexis, just come look at them, MK is very proud of her handiwork," I tried hoping that breaking down the steps might help.
"I'm not hungry," she said sternly shooting me a glare.
"I didn't say you had to eat them, I just said you should come to see them," I told her trying my best to not lose my cool. Her eating habits have always concerned me, and they just seem to be getting worse.
"Fine," she huffed pulling the covers off and setting her bear on the nightstand before gliding past me. I haven't had to deal with angry Alexis in a while, so this was a bit unsettling. I followed her back downstairs, where Ashley and Mary-Kate were setting the table for a late breakfast.
"Good morning, Alexis," Mary-Kate grinned pulling her into a hug.
"Hi," my daughter replied quietly.
