"Lizzie, what the hell?" Mary-Kate quietly growled at her younger sister. She couldn't believe it, she was purposely shutting them out.
"What?" Lizzie was exasperated by her now really angry sister. She was already pretty worked up over the whole Alexis situation and the last thing she needed was an angry sister.
"You put your phone on airplane mode?!?" Mary-Kate exclaimed as she tossed Lizzie's phone back in her direction.
"What? No, I didn't it," Lizzie argued just as confused to hear that as her sister was.
"Elizabeth Chase!" Ashley scolded, she had called her so many times last night. Alexis was hysterical at one point after dinner and Ashley just wanted to prove to her that Lizzie was okay and coming back tomorrow but she never picked up. And that was just one instance, there were so many issues last night and Alexis had trouble with practically everything. It was like all the progress they had made was wiped away.
"What? I didn't do that," Lizzie defended herself but due to her recent crying antics, it sounded a bit more hiccupy and high pitched.
"So your phone just magically turned itself on airplane mode?" Mary-Kate huffed angrily, she knew that this wasn't her sister's nature but when Ashley couldn't get a hold of Lizzie, she called her. She had never thought it was possible to see someone so young heartbroken over something like this, while it wasn't a huge deal in hindsight, the crying fits that she and Ashley had to endure made it seem like someone had killed their relative. The worst part is that now that that doubt was there again, she knew they'd be back to square one with Alexis in a sense that getting her to understand that Lizzie has to go somewhere won't be the easiest.
Alexis had a lot of separation anxiety when she was little but they managed to work through most of that with daycare and babysitting sleepovers. When she was sent off to live with her Grandpa, that's when Lizzie began to develop a strong sense of it also, hence all the calling, which is why it completely fathomed both twins that Lizzie would do such a thing.
"No, but it wasn't me!" Lizzie shot back as she scrambled to open her phone and try to find the oldest notification she hadn't opened.
"Lizzie, it's your phone," Ashley tried to reason calmly but inside she was fuming. How does one do such a thing?
"My oldest unopened notification was around eight-thirty," Lizzie paused wiped the remaining tears off her cheeks as she held her hand up to her mouth trying to calculate what she was doing around that time.
"Well you probably have a million phone calls around than cause I was putting Alexis to bed around that time," Ashley replied in an annoyed tone.
"I-I we were at dinner," Lizzie continued thinking out loud.
"Did you ever leave Boyd at the table by himself?" Mary-Kate leaned forward to ask her sister. Her hatred for Boyd had never really been a thing that she concealed, although she had started to lessen the snide comments due to the amount of hitting Lizzie used to inflict upon her. Thank goodness for Alexis being here, cause Lizzie probably wouldn't be in front of her.
"Uh, yeah, I went to the bathroom while he paid the bill," Lizzie replied as she continued to try and think about what might have happened. Ashley and Mary-Kate shared a knowing look before Mary-Kate nodded in Lizzie's direction hoping that she would speak up.
"Is it possible that Boyd might have turned off your phone?" Ashley asked in the sweetest tone she could muster.
"No, no I don't think so, we're already on thin ice," Lizzie shook her head in denial.
