She was back.
After all of the tears that fell.
And all of the pain that led her to this moment.
The sea was no longer her lifeline.
She was finally free.
Free to be with the one she loved.
The one she needed.
The one she had to leave behind.
And that killed her.
Because she knew that it killed him too.
And he wouldn't tell her that.
The moment their eyes locked, she couldn't find it in herself to care about anyone in else in that moment. Sure, she loved her brother and all of her friends. She missed all of them deeply. Yet, she knew that it was Jay that she missed the most, and she knew that her friends sensed that too because they parted away and looked expectantly towards Jay.
Jay, who just stood there looking at her. She couldn't blame him. All she could do in that moment was force herself to look at him. And then, Jay finally took steps towards her and pulled her to his body. She felt the liquid gather in her eyes, and she tried with all of her might to suck it in. She told herself that she wouldn't cry. She has had to deal with enough tears for her lifetime.
She wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her face deeper into his shoulder. A small frown formed on her lips as she felts scars where her fingers lightly traced. Those scars weren't there when she was... She shook the thoughts from her face as she pulled back lightly to look at him.
The smile that was on him was forced. She didn't like that smile. She liked his charming, carefree smile that he gave. The crooked smile that he would flash to her when he was being silly. Not the smile that he was forcing on himself for her so that she wouldn't see. But she did see, and that made her feel guilty because she knew that she was the reason why that was there in the first place.
Sometimes, she can still hear that voice.
The voice that called her to the sea.
That voice makes her skin crawl.
It ruined her life.
Ruined her once perfect relationship with her Yang.
The relationship that seemed to hang in a very delicate balance.
She knows that he can feel it too.
The voice had nothing compared to the fear she had that she would say something.
Say something that will tip the balance that their relationship hangs in.
Say something that she wouldn't be able to take back.
She doesn't want to lose him again.
She physically can't.
Even now, she is calmed by the sound of his heartbeat. She knows that it might seem silly, though she knows that Jay wouldn't call it that. She doesn't even know the countless hours that he spent listening to hers after Skybound. After The First Realm. After....recently.
"What's on your mind, cherry blossom?" Jay whispered, his hand continuing its ministration on her hip.
Nya frowned slightly at the old nickname. It was the first nickname from when they started dating way back when. It was the only nickname he would use for her now. And she knew why. It was like it physically burned him to bring up anything water. To bring up anything that led up to the events of what she referred to as Seabound. Maybe it did burn him.
