It wasn't that he hated inventing. Back in the old days when they were all just starting out, he was the designated builder.

It was just that... Well, he didn't really necessarily have time for that anymore. Really, with Ninjago on the verge of burning down to the ground every other week, not to mention the amount of realm jumping he had been doing, well, lets just say he had been busy.

And really, Nya and Zane and Pixal were a lot more qualified than he ever was when it came to building. They rarely had bugs like his machines did back then, and he honestly liked that weight off of his shoulders of expecting to be the builder.

Don't get him wrong, he is still called on when time calls for it, but he liked the whole being back up thing compared to the Jay you need to build this thing in the next hour for this mission because Wu once again withheld information from us until now again thing.

Plus, that meant he could just stare and watch Nya while she worked. He liked that. Watching her in her element. He had memorized all of the looks in her eyes. He could tell what facial expression she would make before it even happened. And, while others might find that creepy, he didn't care.

When you are with each other for over 10 years and have faced too many life or death situations than you yourself can remember, then you can talk.

But that is where his problem lied in his previous setup. He was considered back up. And back up also meant that he had to go deal with technical issues when the others couldn't. In this instance, that meant trekking to the other side of Ninjago to help some weird old man because the others were called to a mission while you were out at the Arcade on what was supposed to be your day off.

Was he a tiny bit annoyed by this?

Yes, yes he was.

Was he going to be a baby about it to Nya when she got back to the Monastery so that he could get cuddles?

Also yes.

So really, he had his priorities. Get to this creepy place in Ninjago and then go back to the Monastery so that he could lay on top of Nya and watch a romcom, preferably without Wu lurking in the background.

Honestly, the fact that Wu didn't seem to realize that they were both very aware of what he was doing was astounding to both of them.

But anyway, here he was at this creepy creepy place. Really, they didn't come down here too often, and well, it was for a good reason.

Not only was this place too far away from the City if a disaster were to strike, but the vibes were off. Wu once said that it was because that is where bodies were tossed in the great war back when his father was still around. Jay didn't know if that was actually true, or if Wu just liked to terrorize the crap out of them, so he kept trying to push the story to the back of his mind while he climbed up the steps.

Not that it wouldn't be unlikely if the story that Wu said was true. There had been plenty of ghost sightings in the area, enough to get people to beg them to come investigate. And well, he just assumed that it had to be true if Wu was bringing up his Father.

He rarely talked about him, but when he did, it was for a very good reason.

...A very good reason WAY down the line.

Wu often liked to terrorize them.

Honestly, Jay wondered if that was how Wu tried to stay so young.
