Misunderstanding

There were a lot of things, in retrospect, that he prided himself on.

Survive jumping off a building?

Oh, he had done more than his fair share of that.

Survive snakes?

They apparently loved running around ramped in the City.

Survive Kai?

Probably his most daunting task, but he was doing well so far.

Another thing he prided himself on, though that was probably the least important thing, was being smart.

He knew he was smart. He had crafted wings that had allowed him to fly. And, he had built more than his fair share of vehicles in his time on this earth, in Ninja form or not.

But he, for the life of him mind you, could not figure out what the hell Nya had given in.

Nya, the love of his life for the past 10 years. Nya, who stayed by his side through some of his least proud moments. Nya, who was probably the strongest Elemental Master he had ever seen. Nya, who could have had any guy she wanted, and somehow decided to be with him.

...Yeah, 10 years later and he still didn't get that one, and he was quite convinced that Nya was probably going to leave him if he couldn't figure this out.

Now, you may be wondering what the hell he was rambling on about. Well, let him tell you, if he knew what it was, he would have told you. If he could pin point what even led to this predicament he found himself in, he would have to say that it probably started a couple of weeks ago.

Now, he was good at reading Nya, just about as good as she was at reading him. He supposed it just came with being together for as long as they had. So, he could tell that there was something wrong. In fact, he detected that something was wrong long before the others realized it.

Anytime he questioned her it was the same variation of responses from her part.

'No Jay, nothing is wrong. You're being paranoid.'

'I just didn't sleep well last night, don't read too much into it.'

'Would you just focus on what Master Wu is teaching instead of focusing on me?'

'I don't have time to hang out right now. Please leave.'

'No. I'm not upset. I just want to sleep by myself tonight.'

That last one was the one that told him something was wrong, though he stopped pushing her on it. Every time she had said that one, she cringed, probably knowing how off  that sounded. They hadn't slept apart in years unless there was absolutely no way that it could be done.  And now, they had slept apart for several weeks.

And then, get this, one night (2 days ago), she came storming into his bedroom. He had been trying to respect her wishes, and well, he was exhausted. He couldn't fix whatever was wrong unless she told him, and it appeared that it wasn't going to happen anytime soon. So, he had put on his sleep mask and had been snuggling Mr.Cuddleywomp as if it were Nya.

And then, his door slammed open, and in came Nya. Now, he was confused with whatever face she had been giving him, but he decided to push that aside for now. He was more concerned about why she was here. In his room. At the dead of night. Without wanting to spend any sort of time with him for the last couple of weeks.

In all honesty, he thought at first she was coming in here because she was finally ready to tell him what the hell had been going on. Or, maybe she had decided to come actually spend time with him. But, that was not the case. No, all she did was storm over to him, glare at him, drop this weird stick thing in his lap, and disappear again like the whole encounter never happened.
