Reaper knelt down by the young child, watching as they slept so peacefully. Ever since he had gotten rid of that doctor, the poor soul had been sleeping far better. Their eyes seemed to shine just a bit brighter with the light of life. It was such a beautiful sight.
He and the child had also begun to talk frequently. No one except for the boy could see or hear him anyways. Well, unless they were going to die that is. Which did make the God curious. He had checked his book many times, but he never read Geno's name. He hadn't felt the boy's soul weaken to the point of needing him either.
This led him to believe that because the child is/has been so close to death before, he had become a Medium. A genuine Medium. However, the dark god hasn't met one that could see him so clearly, or hear him as clearly as well. If there were those that could, then they were good at keeping their mouths shut. Even those near dying couldn't see Death as clearly as the boy could! It was a fascinating and equally frustrating thing to think about!
"M-Mr. Reaper?" The soft voice of the child brought the hidden deity from his thoughts. Looking to the child, he gave a soft smile.
"Yes, little one?" He hummed out, leaning to the side some.
The boy blinked a little, a surprise look crossing his eyes before he grinned some. He always seemed to be surprised to see the cloaked person. Then again, the doctors and nurses had probably been trying to explain to him that Reaper wasn't real. Considering they had yet to see him.
"No-Nothing..." He murmured happily, closing his sweet eyes again in an attempt to go to sleep. However, at that moment, some more doctors and nurses entered the darkened room. They rudely turned on the lights and forced the child to sit up despite multiple annoyed complaints.
"Sorry, Geno, but we're gonna be starting you on some new medication today. Is that alright?" One of the nurses stated with an overly sweetened, high-pitched voice. She was making it sound like he had a choice.
The young boy felt like rolling his eyes and snapping at the lady, but he remembered what his Mama had said last time he did that. They were just doing their jobs and were most likely trying to keep him happy and safe seeing as he was a child. So, with a heavy sigh, he bobbed his head in a bare yes. Glancing up, he saw that they were giving him this medicine through a bag. This made him smile and he faced his new friend, who was quietly watching all of this while sitting on the bed.
"Mister, can you tell me more stories about t-the phi-phil..." The child stuck out his pale pink tongue, his brows scrunched up as he tried to think of a way to pronounce the word.
Reaper chuckled, smiling softly at the child. "You mean the Philosopher? Which one, I know many." Which was true.
"The one w-with the stone!" The boy chirped, leaning forward some before one of the nurses pushed him back gently. Well, it was rough, but Geno didn't pay it any mind. Reaper did.
Biting back a glare, he started telling the child about the legend that had created the Philosopher's Stone. The legend was true, to a point. The full truth was that he and that Philosopher had made a deal of eternal life and youth, to an extent. However, the deal needed to be manifested as something. So, they chose a worthless rock, which had turned into a brilliant ruby. Now, Reaper doesn't remember why they made a deal like that, but he remembered that the Philosopher had lived quite a few centuries before calling the quits and breaking the rock. Sad thing was, other than the human's immediate death, the rock didn't forget the deal. Instead, there were now shards of the stone and anyone unlucky enough to be given one of those shards was now a part of that deal till their shard no longer had magic or they begged Death himself to free them.
During the story, the child stayed quiet, eyes wide and mouth slightly open. He looked completely enthralled. Of course, he asked questions about the other people affected by the stone, to which Reaper gave a quick rundown. The nurses and doctors gave each other a worried frown that the child didn't notice. The truth was, the new medication was to help with any side-effects from the other medication they were going to be giving him. The main one they were worried about was the hallucinations that the child was experiencing.
