It had been a while since the two were there and Ink had somehow figured out a way to explain the constant disappearance of fish and sharks from his tank. He had also somehow gotten more exotic fish and mammals for the Mer-skeleton to eat. Thankfully, the skeleton really liked these new foods.
During this time, Ink had made more reasonable notes about what the other was doing and what he liked to eat. He also figured out that the mer-skeleton had a mischievous and playful personality. Often, Ink can find himself being thrown into the tank whenever the scientist is even close to the lip. There was one thing that the scientist didn't understand, the mer-skeleton was saving little bits of every food. Well, he hadn't in the beginning because he was probably so hungry.
"Why do you do that? Is it a habit? Something your kind does?" The land-walker asked, moving a little close to the new tank.
The merman made a humming noise, staring at the smaller being in a curious fashion. Then then nodded softly, holding up three fingers. That was how the other communicated with the land-walker.
Ink smiled and nodded, yet his eyes drifted down to the carefully held quills, scales and small bits of bones and even a few pearls. All of them were assortment of color, size, and even shape. He wondered why the mer-skeleton needed to collect them. Was it to honor the kill in someway?
After watching the other for a little while, he had decided to grab a small net pouch thing.
"Here, you can have use this to hold your items."
The dark skeleton blinked some before taking the pouch. He then nodded and swam down to possibly rest. Ink smiled a little, relaxing that he for once wasn't pulled into the water and he went out to get himself something to eat.
While out, he was stopped by some colleagues who were questioning him on the "corpse". He gave them all a sort laugh and told them somethings that he did genuinely find out, but said there was just too much to learn at the moment for him to process correctly. That was the truth, just not the full thing of it.
Suddenly, there was a loud and horrible screeched that caused anyone to hear it to flinch and drop. Ink then felt his blood grow cold. That noise came from his room.
Dropping whatever was in his hands, he booked it down the hall! Who the hell would be stupid enough to go into his lab?! It's his! The only dumbass who'd disregard his-
"Dr. Jones! What the hell are you doing?" Ink's scream brought everyone from the wonder that was the living Skeleton Mermaid.
Said Mermaid looked over to Ink, quickly rushing to the wall and making a shrill call that anyone of them could tell was a distress call. It pained the scientist's heart to hear that sound. It was so pitiful and it just made him angrier.
The human looked at Ink with a smug look, a cocky look that pissed the Mer-skeleton off. It reminded him of that damn fool. That idiot that wanted to "harness" his magic.
"You work with dead things, I work with tissue and living things. It's in my realm, not yours." The snobby doctor said with a heavy smirk.
The short skeleton's face twisted up right into a scowl.
"He's a skeleton Merman! He's more in my 'realm' than yours! Sure, you work with living things, but-"
"Enough, Ink Comyet!" A loud and booming voice echoed throughout the room, silencing whatever else the short monster was going to say. It was the boss, a powerful looking goat monster. He stormed over to Ink, who's anger had dissipated and left the other to cower away some. "You had a living creature in your lab! You kept it hidden from us and feed it our own research mammals to it! You're lucky I'm only thinking about demoting you to someone's assistant!" The larger monster bellowed, making Ink tightly close his eyes and turn his head away.
