Ink chuckled softly, laying on the grassy fields of some forest clearing. He was there with an old friend of his, Fresh.
The two went back to Middle School... They were always the odd ones out, mainly because Fresh was a parasite who wore bright colors while Ink was the "crazy" artist. They went to the same High School, but... They weren't really close...
"I miss these times." He sighed softly, turning his head towards his more monochrome friend.
The parasite gave a dry chuckle.
"We could've had these times before..." He whispered.
Fresh had stopped speaking so loud by Sophomore year, the year that Ink made it clear he was stronger than before... The year that the two drifted apart. The year that they were separated in two different worlds, Jock and Nerd.
The bigger skeleton lightly winced at the soft statement. There wasn't an ounce of anger or hurtful intention... But it just reminded the artist of what he had lost... He had lost one of his best friends for a group of people whole only cared about his popularity.
"I'm sorry... I should've been there for you... and I wasn't..." The young adult winced at himself, memories of how horrible his "buddies" were to Fresh and his group... How they made one of his own friends kill themselves...
The parasite only smiled sadly, giving another sad chuckle.
"It is in the past, my Creator." The nickname flowed from Fresh's lips before he could stop it.
It was the same nickname he had always called the bigger skeleton when they were younger... Always saying that he loved him, that they were the bestest and closest of all friends...
The bigger's throat closed up, he should've stayed with him...
"No..." Ink's voice cracked, tears falling from his eyes. "I-I was hor-horrible t-to you... To yo-your friends..." More tears fell, his voice shaking and breaking more.
The parasite's smile never changed, he carefully turning on his side to cup the other's cheek. Slowly, he wiped away the tears, his eyes a dull and lifeless grey.
"We were young... You were just confused, My Creator." He murmured, his eyes dulling more. "I just... wish I could've told you..."
The artist's eyes widen, his arms wrapping around the smaller's body, forcing him to his chest.
"N-No! NO! I CAN'T LOSE YOU!" He shouted, sobs leaving his mouth.
The small nerd gave a loose laugh, it was so dead that it wasn't a laugh at all...
"I wish I told you..." The smile widen some. "That I loved you... I loved you so much, that... that being apart for so long... it's killed me."
Another sob ripped from the taller, a hand gripping the smaller's cheek. He had to stay, he couldn't leave him!
"I'm here! I'm right here! I'm not leaving! I won't, please!" He begged, the tears blurring his vision.
The smaller let his smile relax, tears of his own fall. It wasn't the taller's fault... It was his.
"Sshh... Come on, smile for me, please? Before-"
His words were taken from him, his lips being pressed against someone else's. Tears mixed in the kiss, making it taste salty, but neither of them cared.
Their eyes pressed closed, both of them holding onto each other tightly. They needed each other... They were each others life line... After so many friends had Fallen... After so many lovers had left them alone and dying... After so much horrible heartaches...
They needed each other... But, one was already too far gone... Too far dead inside to be able to live.
All Ink could do, was sob in their chest after the heartfelt kiss, feeling their body become nothing more than dust... Feeling their life and soul fade into nothing.
Oh, what could've been if he had only spoken a few words to the smaller... If he had looked his way... Sat near him, spoke up for him... What could've been if he did anything different...
Maybe then, he wouldn't be trying to kill himself again.
