The dark boned tailed creature watched as for weeks, the four new land-walkers protected him and his brethren. Of course each had their respective styles.
Dust, the silent one who always has his hood up, uses his magic to block off the entrance to the stairs that leads to the tanks. And then, he might let them leave, with a few missing limbs... If they're lucky.
Horror, the land-walker with the large hole in his head, drags them out of the room and... does something to them as they plea and beg a lot from him.
Nightmare, the tentacle guy, simply sleeps in a chair or plays card games and no ever enters the room.
Then Ink, the little one... No one really bothers him, some of them wincing at the sound of his pure voice. Of course, there were a few fights here and there, but the little guys always won.
"Hi, Hunter." The little one chirped, their smile never fading.
The artist had started to call the large mer-skeleton Hunter as they were the hunter of the group, and it was something to call him other than that stupid code name.
"Hunter" gave a grumble of a greeting, ever so slightly relaxing.
Out of all the land-walkers, he liked the little one the best. They just interest him the most.
Though today, it seemed they had something.
"Can you swim to the top? I want to give you something." They smiled, lightly lifting up the basket.
There wasn't need to wait as the large mer-skeleton swished his oddly shaped tail side to side, easily reaching the top of the tank.
No, he didn't have to work about the little ones as they were sleeping. So, this would be a good time to see what the artist had for him.
Ink giggles as he saw the hunter patiently waiting for him on the lone platform.
"I hope I didn't leave you waiting, some of Sci's guards tried to get up here."
Hunter hissed at the sound of the dick's name, but he stayed where he was. He may not know these beings well, but he knew at least Ink was trust worthy... And that he was hurt the worst.
The small skeleton giggled as he nodded, eyes dulling.
"Yeah, I don't like him either... He's never been sane... I wish we saw that..." The artist's voice dulled more, his gaze shifting to the uncomfortable deck, guilt in ever action.
The tailed being gave a soft growl, slowly reaching out for the other.
Ink flinched at the out stretched hand, fear swiftly crossing his face before it dissipated.
"Sorry..." They whispered, letting their slim hand be held by the hunter.
For some moments, they just sat in silence, letting each other become calmer.
"I got you something..." The land-walker muttered, their colorful eyes returning some. "Though," They bit their lip, pulling the yellow-blue eyes to said action. "I'm not sure if you'll like it..."
The hunter gently squeezed the land-walker's hand, a silent okay.
Using his free hand, Ink pulled out a wrapped bar of sorts, it smelled sweet and something else.
The colorful monster carefully tugged his hand back, then opened it a bit. Inside the wrapper was deep brown bar, the sweet smell growing stronger.
"I'll give you a little piece, I don't want you to get sick." They whispered, breaking off a square.
The tailed creature nodded, slowly opening his mouth. The small square plopped in, almost instantly melting.
Hunter closed his mouth, swishing the gooey thing around before swallowing.
The square was sweet, but held a bitter undertone. It was perfect.
Ink held in a giggle as best as he could, but seeing the hunter look so pleased and relaxed, being so happy with himself, the giggle just came out!
"Want more?" The artist giggled again, breaking off a bigger piece.
Those yellow-blue eyes popped open as a soft growl rumbled from his chest.
"Awe, you're just a big sweet heart." The mortal muttered as he gave the larger piece to the hunter.
He ignored the mortal's words, though they did make him feel odd... A warm, fuzzy safe kind of odd.
"That's chocolate... Of course, it's not the best chocolate, but it's a start." The young thing told, muttering the last bits to himself.
It seemed to be a habit that the mer-skeleton noted. A habit that only happens when the young had something on his mind.
Ink shook his head as he reached in the basket again. This time he pulled out a clear container of something.
"These are noodles." The artist said, pulling out a fork to eat with. "Do you want to try some?"
The large monster nodded slowly, carefully pushing himself up.
The land-walker twirled the metal thing before brining the tan strings close to him.
They held an oddly satisfying smell to them, so the half fish let himself taste the "noodles".
Hunter's eyes popped open a second time, but his gaze was on the container of noodles. He wanted more.
"Hehe, Hunter, you shouldn't have too much, okay? I don't want you to get sick." The small thing smiled down at the other.
"Name... Not... Hunter." He gargled out. His voice was harsh, rough, and hard to understand.
"You spoke?" The words came out as a whisper, no anger or disgust shown on his face, nothing but that childish wander. "If you name's not Hunter, what is it? Can I know?"
The last question made the hunter almost smirk. It was full of trust and hope, but understanding. The land-walker wasn't going to pry if he didn't to answer.
"Error Queen." Error spoke as slow and clear as he could.
Ink gasped, not out of anything but joy and wonderment!
"I find that it suits you, little glitchy." The childish land-walker lightly pressed his pointer finger on the other's nose, a smile big and large.
Error's face broke out in that yellow blush, he naturally dropping down to hide it.
That was a first... No one had been able to make him blush since he was a guppy... He felt bashful too.
The land-walker only giggled, their smile still big and happy.
"I really wish we met under different circumstances." The sentence was sadden, it holding so much loneliness, that the hunter's eyes had to look at the other.
Their eyes were dulled, filled with pain and grief. They felt lonely, like they've suffered through the purest form of darkness by themselves.
Pulling himself back up. the creature pulled the other close to him. He felt like he had to protect them, like he had to save them from that daunting darkness, from drowning in that loneliness.
Ink felt himself stiffen at the sudden hug, but it was all that was needed. The tears he tried so hard to stop, fell faster than any waterfall could.
He sobbed into the dark bones of the mer-man, saying he was sorry... Sorry, like it was his fault for what a deranged skeleton had done.
Those words angered Error. The artist had no reason to apologize for what Sci had done to him and his brethren. No, all the land-walker had to apologize for was being back in the hell he had left! For forcing himself to relive terrible memories!
Error wasn't going to let that monster get away with what he had done. He'll make them pay for making his Ink cry.
