I really shouldn't have been playing that rough, but I guess to learn you have to fall... Hard.

But, when I broke the gate of the witch's garden and landed on her prized flowers, I knew I was in trouble... But I tried to apologize and even offered to fix the gate!

Yet, she turned me into a monster. An awful, hideous monster... Half octopus, half skeleton...

I was once a handsome skeleton merman, but... But now, no Pod wants to have a cursed mer with them.

Thankfully(I guess), I wasn't the only one like this...

There was this mer-skeleton who was normal till he rejected a witch, who turned him into something bad. He can't completely touch something without having these weird strings wrapping around it and utterly destroying it. His voice was a bit weird too, it would randomly change pitches and sometimes it sounded like multiple people were talking at once... Some days it was hard to even understand what he was saying!

Then there's a mer-skeleton who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. This mistake had left him blind, and because his Pod hunts with their eyes, they left him behind. Though he's actually a skilled hunter, better than any I've seen, but he still needs someone to accompany him on hunts, just in case.

After a while, I had a Pod again, sort of. A normal Pod can be as small as twelve or as big as two hundred... Yet, my new Pod only had six. Very small.

It didn't matter, we all were really good hunters, we go where the food goes... And we know how to make nests quickly, so we're good there.

Taking a deep breath, I relaxed against the sand of some random beach of  a small island. Me and the Pod were relaxing after hunting a little more than we needed. Like seriously, there was plenty of food to last us at least another month or so! Amazing!

Killer's head turned towards the west, worry falling on his face.

"Humans." He whispered, shifting closer to the shadows or where he thought the shadows would be.

Dust grabbed the blind mer-skeleton and held him close, hiding both of them with his bumpy cloak that he took off a floating corpse.

I easily crawled into the shadows, being thankful that my bones and tentacles were pitch black. Horror shielded Red, pressing themselves into a tight corner that was the shadiest. Error shifted into one of the shallow caverns in the rocks behind him, the shadows very easily shielding him from view.

We waited. Killer was rarely ever wrong about something... Specially when it comes to humans.

It didn't take long before heavy pants reached all of our ears, soft whimpers following.

Soon, bodies quiet literally fell from the other side of the large rock formations. One of these bodies collapsed onto the ground, huffing heavily.

I did a quick count of how many there were. Six skeletons, the same number as us, but... It seems that at least half of them were weak or useless. Then my eyes wondered to their clothes...

Their clothes were bland, stained with red and black substances, being torn or shredded in some areas. Well, except one, they seemed to be wearing a pale white jacket.

"C-Can we rest now?" The one who fell stuttered out, their voice stratchy and harsh.

The tallest out of the group turned towards the one who fell, setting down the person on their back.

He was different from the others. Not only was he taller, but he held a more stern look to him. One of his eyes was actually red, with a glowing red cut underneath it, something I had never seen on a human skeleton before. He also was wearing a deep grey shirt stained with mainly a deep red color and he held a scarf around his neck.
