“Omo, omo,” Julia hissed in between wincing her head. “Kailan nangyari ang lahat, Magi? Bakit wala man lang kaming kaalam-alam, ha? Ni hindi ka man lang nga namin napansin na dumaing ka—wait!”
Naningkit bigla ang mga mata ni Julia. “Hindi ka nawasak? Ibig bang sabihin… maliit ‘yong kay Dylan?!”
Natawa na lamang ako’t napailing kay Julia. Even though I’m not at Magi’s shoes right now, ako ang nahihiya at pinamumulahan ng mukha sa mga sinasabi ni Julia. Discussing that sensitive topic is really such a huge turn off. Ang uncomfy kaya pag-usapan ‘yon, tipong ikukwento mo pa ‘yong nangyari ‘that night’---no! That thing should really always be kept private.
“Ikaw ang mas nakakaalam dapat no’n, Julia. Ikaw ang kapatid ni Dylan. You should be the first one to see his armor right before my turn,” Magi replied, still optimistic while staring at the object she was still clasping… that pregnancy test.
“We’re not going to force you about telling us when and where did you guys do that miracle thing inside your womb—”
“Interesado ako, Corrine,” pagputol ni Julia sa sinasabi ko. “I’m dying to know what happened during that night. When and where?!”
“That’s their privacy, Julia.” Napailing na lang ako. “It’s beyond our scope to know about the place and the exact date and time kung kailan nila ‘yon ginawa. I hope you learn to respect someone’s privacy. Including this sensitive topic that is really not available to share with some of our friends, but only with their lovers.”
After saying those words, sana ay hindi ko na-offend si Julia. Bigla kasi akong na-bother no’ng tumahimik siya bigla, which is so not her. Hindi na lang siya kumibo, but good thing, hindi na rin niya pinilit si Magi na magkwento about that night which seems to be the hottest night of Magi’s life.
“But I have one thing to ask sana.” As I was busy drinking some pineapple juice, Magi’s words broke the silence. “Gusto ko sanang manatiling sikreto muna sa ating tatlo na buntis ako, okay lang? I want to surprise him sa darating na holidays, maybe on or before Christmas day or New Year. So, promise me… both of you will keep your mouths shut.”
“I promise.”
“Hindi ko sure, ha?” si Julia ang nagsalita.
“Pwede mo pang pagkatiwalaan si Corrine na mananahimik ‘yan hanggang sa dumating ang araw na maging handa ka na to surprise Dylan. Kaso ako…” Julia winked. “Hindi natin sure ‘yan. Alam mong ‘pag kumati ang dila ko, ligwak na ‘yang surprise na gagawin mo.”
“Bibigyan kita ng snowbear araw-araw,” Magi replied, chortling. “Pero seryoso kasi! Kahit ngayon lang, pakiusapan mo muna ‘yang dila mo na mag-behave kamo siya. Please be cooperative.”
“Syempre joke lang ‘yon, Magi! Though it’s quite tough… pero sige, try kong hindi maging madaldal.”
Ako ‘yong kinakabahan sa ‘try’ na sinasabi nitong si Julia. Pero sana ay ‘wag ngang magdilang-anghel ang kinatatakutan ni Magi na baka madulas sa iba itong si Julia. Sayang ang surprise na pasabog ni Magi ‘pag nagkataon, e.
“Anyway, bago man lang tayo magpaalam sa isa’t isa…” Ibinaba ko ang basong hawak ko na may laman na juice, and then I glanced at Magi. “I really want to congratulate you, Magi… for having that little angel inside your womb. I’m really, really happy for both of you and Dylan. Malapit na kayong magkapamilya, and I wish to see your family grow merrier and stronger.”
“Thank you so much, Corrine,” naiiyak niyang sambit tiyaka ako niyakap.
I didn’t have any intention to make her cry, and even my message seemed not dramatic enough to make her shed her tears but… maybe Magi was just getting so emotional because of happiness.
