the following day was rough.

ron and lily were sitting in the courtyard, lily reading ron a book while he held her in his arms, trying to rest his eyes.

they were scolded by mcgonagall to go inside to their own houses, but ron had a bad feeling, so he took lily to the gryffindor tower.

"should've came with me to the hufflepuff basement. it's safer there," she told him in a whisper.

"your friends don't like me at all," he chuckled softly.

"but they do, they just don't know you like i do," she frowned.

"don't frown, love. it'll be okay," he tucked her hair behind her ear.

"i'm scared," she whispered with a pout.

just then, the loud sound of glass shattering boomed through the halls.

ron quickly hid lily in his arms, hiding with the rest of his house who were in the common room.

hermione looked terrified as well. he pulled her close to him and moved her so she was behind him, and so was lily. lily and hermione held hands, peaking out behind ron in fear.

mcgonagall burst into the room and everyone screamed.

"hush children. it is only me," she assured, "come, come with me. something horrible has happened."

filled with fear, everyone followed mcgonagall to the courtyard.

lily stood with ron, horrified of the thought of what could have happened.

her heart broke in two when she saw dumbledore on the floor. she gave rons hand a squeeze and he squeezed back. she rested her head on his shoulder, letting hot tears fall from her eyes.

she watched as harry potter arrived, and went towards him, taking a necklace and moving dumbledores long hair from his face.

ginny went to him and gave harry a deserved and comforting hug.

ron watched as professor mcgonagall raised her wand, in a salute of honor to headmaster dumbledore. madame pomfrey and professor sprout did the same. so ron lifted his wand and so did lily, but they didn't let go of each other.

all together, their magic got rid of the symbol of the dark lord that was conjured by one of his followers.

lily cried into his shoulder, only feeling comfort by being with him.
