Lots of BloodThe curfew wasn't mandatory. More of a suggestion. Because if it was mandatory, the mayor would have to admit that St. Canard's personal superhero had gone missing. I was following the guidelines mainly because there was nothing else to do. All the shops and restaurants were closed, and I had resorted to cleaning. Yes, cleaning.
It wasn't my favorite, or even in the top hundred things I would want to do, but there wasn't much else to do until Jim got home. He wasn't obeying the guidelines. Which was fine. He could handle himself; being an ex-stuntman, he knew his way around a fight if it came to one.
I never expected Jim to want to move in with me. He hadn't seem like the type, but he practically jumped at the chance. We moved into a small brownstone in the heart of the city. That we couldn't keep clean.
He had dedicated the basement as his man cave, which was fine by me. It kind of freaked me out and I was pretty sure it was haunted. Though he never said I couldn't go in it, so I stealed my nerves and walked downstairs.
I found the nearest outlet and knelt to plug in the vacuum. I noticed there was a red drop on the crown molding. That was strange. None of the house was painted red, just varying shades of grays and whites.
I looked closer and I could smell the metallic sent of blood. I jumped back and saw a thin trail of drops led all the way through the room and up the stairs. I heard a muffled voice from the other side of the wall.
"What the," I pressed the wall, and it clicked.
The wall slid and revealed a dark room made of brick. Darkwing Duck was pined to a metal table, that stood up right. His head hung in defeat. His arms were hanging above his head by chains and his feet were pinned to the table with metal clamps. His uniform was ripped to shreds and he had several wounds up and down his body. Bloody feathers laid in clumps on the floor. He struggled to look up at the noise, and we locked eyes. He tried to say something to me but gaged on blood. It dripped out of his mouth and down his uniform. My breath hitched.
Someone stepped out from behind a tray of blood-soaked-terrifying tools and in front of me. He was dressed in the yellow suit that was known as Negaduck; the city notorious villain's outfit blazed in front of me. My heart pounded.
His eyes were wide in shock. He step towards me and put his hands on my shoulders, gently pushing me out of the room. The door slid closed behind us. I took a deep breath I realized it was Jim. My Jim. I shook with anger.
"Please explain why," he cut me off.
"I can explain everything. Let's just go upstairs first." He slid his hand down my arm. He interwove our fingers and tried to pull me upstairs, but I didn't budge.
"You let blood get on my carpet," I finished, gritting my teeth. He stopped and stared at me like I was joking, then chuckled.
"You're carpet? Isn't it our carpet?" he laughed, leaning closer to me.
I avoided what I assumed what was going to be a kiss.
"I'm not joking."
"I'll clean it up," he said, cupping my face, and I looked at him.
He had blood coating his feathers, his lips twitched, and his eyes seemed more hysterical than normal. I glanced at the wall. Then I rubbed a smug of blood out of his feathers with my free hand.
"All of it?" I asked sternly.
He took my hand and kissed the blood from my fingers.
"You don't have to worry about anything." He kiss me and there was a slight metallic taste, and he crushed me into his chest. He pulled away with a smirk and said, "Ever again."
