One of Matilda's and Hortense's favorite memories was mainly memorable because A.) Scotlyn wasn't there and B.) Fergus had taken them fishing. The girls looked at each other as they made their way to peer. Usually, he only took Scotty fishing. Not that they didn't enjoy spending time with him.

He baited their poles, and they sat on either side of him. He said very little like usual, but the looking back on the memory the silence was thicker than usual. After about an hour of them not catching anything, Fergus cleared his throat, and they looked at him.

"Girls, I wanted to talk to you about Scotty."

"What about her?" Hortense swung her legs off the pier. "Is that why she didn't come with us?"

"Yay, what about Scotty?!" Matilda asked, leaning closer to her father.

"Well, I want you to look at Scotty like a brother, not your sister." The girls looked at him with confusion now. "Can you do that?"

"Why?" "Won't mummy get mad?" They spoke together. He sighed and pulled them towards him.

"Don't call Scotty your brother. Just think that unless the chuilein ask you. You see," he was staring deep into the horizon but still holding them, "Scotty isn't a normal girl. That's okay, but I want you two to respect that."

"Okay, da!" Matilda popped and went back to her fish.

"I don't understand." Hortense looked down at her fishing poll. She scrunched up her beak. "Why would she want to be a boy?"

He chuckled slightly at her reaction. "Some people are just born different, m'eudail."

Hortense bit her lip. She didn't understand, but respect her father's wishes. That moment lived with her for a long time afterwards.

Of course, Scotty never asked them to call him that. The thought never even crossed his mind. Just the opposite. Once he left Dismal Downs, he stayed as far away as physically possible, even with all his adventures. For the simple reason that he didn't want to face the reality of his new life versus that of his old one.

It wasn't like he was afraid of his siblings. He loved seeing them and had seen them several times over the years. They never stayed long enough to ask many questions. Most of the interactions boiled down to 'how are you?', 'when did you get a company?', 'how's the company?', & 'how are Mummy and Daddy?'. On the few rare occasions they stayed with each longer than that, he put up with the old nickname and asked his companions not to come around as much.

Which never applied to Goldie. She popped by a few times when his siblings were visiting. It wasn't all bad. She was respectful, in some sense. For instance, she wouldn't ask about his past; she helped him provide covers for things; or didn't refer to him by certain names while they were around. However, this lead her to developing other nicknames for him like Moneybags and the covers usually were most embarrassing things she could think of in the moment.

The most notable instance was when she met Matilda. They had both unexpectedly shown up after the mansion's construction. Goldie was wondering around the house and found Scrooge in what she assumed was to be his office. She could tell, even though there was only a desk and no seats.
