OG Darkwing Duck
Darkwing & Megavolt
(Implied Past) Drake Mallard x Elmo Sputterspark

"Hello. Is this Drake Mallard?" A woman sounded urgent on the other end of the phone.

"Depends. Who's asking?"

"Gos! Yes, this is Drake." Drake said, plucking the phone away his daughter.

"This is St. Canard Hospital." He groaned.

"Oh, no. What has LP done now?" The mallard whipped his face.

"Oh, no this isn't about Launchpad," that was how well the hospital knew Launchpad's reputation but still who else did Drake know to be getting this call? "This is about Elmo Sputterspark."

Drake froze. He didn't know how to respond. Elmo? Why would he be in the hospital?

"Mr. Mallard?" The woman asked but Drake could only make an unintelligible noise into the speaker. "He seems to have you down as his emergency contact, is that correct or should I call someone else."

"Is he," Drake could finish the sentence. Megavolt had been hurt before but this was the first time he had been contacted about it.

"He needs immediate surgery but we need a green light from someone. He is incapacitated at the moment." That put Drake into high gear.

"What do I needed to do?" he ask.

"If you give me the okay we can start immediately but we will still need you to come and sign somethings."

"Of course. Yes whatever he needs and I'll be down there as fast I can."

"One more thing Mr. Mallard," the woman's voice turned quiet and unsure.

"Yes?" he asked.

"I have to inform you Mr. Sputterspark is the supervillain known as M-," Drake cut her off.

"Give me fifteen minutes." He hung up the phone and raced to his chair.

He took the Ratchater and parked a block away. He changed in some back alley back into civilian clothing. If this was a trap he'd be ready and really would bout Elmo in the hospital. Drake busted into the emergency entrance.

"Mr. Mallard?" the woman asked at the desk. He nodded and she shoved a clipboard in his face. "Sign."

He did. He sign a lot and probably signed his soul a way a t one point but he didn't care. It was fine by him. Elmo needed it.

Five hours. He waited for five hours with hard chairs and bad coffee. He managed to arrange dinner for Gos by asking Binkie if they would have her over. She had wanted to ask questions. Luckily the only thing he could say was that a friend was in the hospital before they escorted him into a recovery room with Megavolt. No he stood in a recovery room with Elmo.

The rat was in a hospital gown and his usually helmet, goggles, and yellow jumpsuit were placed on a side table in a bag. The chairs in this room much more comfortable than the lobby. His eyes shut and he contemplated sleep and what was a doped up Megavolt going to do to him? He fell asleep.

"Drakey?" Drake opened his eyes.

He noticed Meg-Elmo had put on his glasses-not googles but his actual glasses-and was staring at him. He couldn't help but bolt to the side of the bed.

"Elmo. Are you okay? What happen?" Drake wasn't sure if he was entitled to those answers but asked anyway.

"I assume they told you about the whole mask thing," Elmo laughed but it turned into a look of pain.

"I sorta already knew that but that didn't answer the question." Drake felt like he was scolding Gosalyn, not talking to his arch nemesis.

"How'd -" Elmo seemed to think better of the question because he continued. "Uh, I was messing around with a dimensional gun thing for Negaduck and the thing kinda exploded."

"What would," Drake had to pull himself out of Darkwing mode. The mention of Negaduck usually sent him spiraling. He cleared his throat. "What would your parents do if they lost you, Elmo?"

"It was an honest mistake." The villain crossed his arms but looked guilty. "Why'd ya come anyway?"

"I'm your emergency contact. Speaking of your parents. Why is it not them?" Drake asked.

"Are you kidding? What would mother do if she got the call you did?" Elmo threw his arms in the air.

"Fair point," Drake sighed. He turned to leave. "Look I am glad you're alive but I've got to get back to my daughter."

"You have a daughter?" His voice caught Drake at the door.

"Yeah, and I tell you she more of a handful than we ever were." Drake patted towards the hallway in thought and waved. "Bye, Sparky."

Elmo watched him walk out the door and smiled. Drake had been the only one allowed to call him that because he know it meant he cared and he still cared, even after all these years. Megavolt was thankful he got hurt and that Drake came. After all, Drake had always been the hero type.

"Bye, Dorkwing."
