Original Darkwing Duck
Nega Gosalyn (Lyn) & Nega Launchpad
Lyn & Friendly Four

Context: A year after the gateway is closed and Negaduck is stuck in DW's world.

'Dr. Quackerjack watching me so getting away won't be too hard.'

She thought to herself. She didn't need to be away from The Friendly Four for long but she felt like she needed to do this. Dr. QJ put her to bed and she set her alarm for very early.

When it went off she grabbed a bag she had already packed and made her way through the surprisingly warm warehouse. She traveled down the dark alleys and back roads until she found her old house.

She stood outside of it for a long moment. She knew it would be the last time she looked at the dilapidating building. She had to be quick though she didn't know how long Launchpad would be away. She ran straight for Negaduck's room and found herself knocking on the door before entering.

No one had seen the duck in months but this was routine if she ever dared thought of entering Negaduck's room. There was no answer but the door opened from the other side. She took a step back.

"Gosalyn? What are you doing here?" LP asked, scratching his head like he just woke up.

She had never forgotten about the sidekick but never expected him to be in the house. Let alone Negaduck's bedroom.

"It's been almost a year and," she bounced on the balls of her feet, "I want to give him a funeral."

"Why now?" Was all the sidekick managed to say. Gosalyn sighed.

"Tomorrow's a year."

"Not like we got a body." LP leaned on the doorframe.

"I know but I thought we could do something." LP noticed her eyes darting around the room.

He shifted and allowed her in. She grabbed a yellow hat from the closet. Then she went to the side dresser and pushed aside the dirty magazine to the bottom. She pulled out a small box. In the hall she yanked a photo off the wall - which was really a wanted picture of the yellow dressed mallard. Then she ran to her room and got a small photo of him. A rare occasion where he had been in a decent mood and actually managed a smile. She placed everything except the photo in a large box from the hall and placed the photo in her backpack. She carried it into the living room and LP looked at it.

"We could, uh, burn it. I guess." LP shrugged uneasily knowing Lyn's hatred of that kind of stuff but she nodded.

They placed the box on the back lawn. LP went through the box pushing everything aside until he found the small box.

"Hey what's in this, Lyn?" From LP's face it was clear he wasn't going to light it until he knew.

Friendly Four POV:

"What do you mean she's gone?" Megavolt yelled.

"I woke up and went to check and she wasn't there!" Quakerjack screamed into the phone.

"Have you called Reggie?"

"Yes, he has his plants looking for her and Bud is here."

"Okay, everyone meet at your place then." Megavolt's phone clicked off.

He sped through the streets towards the warehouse. He busted in the door just as Reggie got the news.

"She's at Negaduck's old house?" He repeated what the plant said. Everyone froze. "She went willingly?"

"That doesn't sound right," Megavolt's heart raced.

"Yes, didn't she vow never to return there?" Bud asked in thought.

They all made their way to the house. They all had different things on their minds. 'Was she hurt?' 'What was she thinking?' 'Was it really voluntary?' All Megavolt could think was: 'Did they really understand her?'

She was the type never to do anything wrong or without permission. So why this why now? She had been free of Negaduck a year and now she had gone back to his trap.

They came up the back entrance and noticed Lyn standing in the back yard to Negaduck's old henchman. They almost attacked without sizing up the situation but Bud was the one that noticed it. He held up a hand to his lips to silence them.

"Hey what's in this, Lyn?" LP's asked the young girl. It wasn't treating though. Pain flashed across her face for a second.

"That's everything left of his life before Negaduck." He nodded and they watched as LP struck a match and the box lit up. They watched the two of them for a long moment. When fire burned out then the sidekick turned towards their young ward.

"You know Lyn he loved you. In his own way. Just like I do. Please don't go back to those heroes. I can't bear to lose you too." All the hero's had the same though:

(Please don't.) Megavolt hoped.

"I know you love me Launchpad but I have to go." She hugged him and he hugged her like he would never see her again. She bounced towards the back door and paused turned back towards him. "I know he loved me, Launchpad. He was my father after all."

The hero's felt their breath catch as the girl disappeared into the house. They had never thought about it that way. She had never talked about him that way.

That's when Megavolt realized. She still respected him if only because of the fact he was her father. That's when Megavolt fully understood Lyn for the first time and his respect and love for her only grew.
