2017 Ducktales (post canon)
Possessive!Scrooge McDuck
SPOILERS FOR SEASON THREEIt was too hot for a fire tonight, but Scrooge wasn't using it for warmth. He watched the papers curl as they burned like a thousand times before. No evidence was the best evidence; especially when one was playing chess with one's family.
His family knew, of course, that he was selfish. He had shown it in different ways to each of them. Though they never knew how deep his need for control truly ran. How much he truly controls each one of them.
Take Della, his only niece, for example. As wild as she was, she never could be entertained very long. It didn't take him long to figure that out. As a young girl, adventures held her attention and kept her praise on him. As a teenager he enrolled her in flight school and she thought him the shiniest jewel in the world.
As an adult, her thoughts wandered to traveling and having a family of her own. However, he cut her plans short by offering a job as his personal plight. She even got to pick the plane, a large red biplane she called the Cloud Slayer. He never told her that he found out about the plans.
It happened again once she had the boys. She decided she was going to travel. She had already made plans with his secretary and he decided to build the spear of Selene. They all knew how that ended.
Donald was easy - once he figured it out. When the lad was younger, he just wanted to make sure Della, and himself by extension, was safe, so Scrooge did that. He didn't coddle them by any means. However, he did make sure they didn't break, scrape, or get impale. He failed to do so once and suffered for ten years. However Donald was back now, and he was just as easy to please just his energy was focused on the boys. As along as they remained safe and out of immediate danger, Donald was completely happy living in his house once again and would listen to him drone on about his company, relive adventures, and plans for the future.
His hatred for his eldest nephew stemmed from his uncontrollable good luck. He had tried to get a boy into adventure when he was young but it was "too much effort" for a person that got everything without lifting a finger. After that failed Scrooge tried to control the luck with charms and tricks, but nothing worked.
He offered a job to the gander within his company, basically doing whatever he wanted because he knew it would bring good luck to McDuck Enterprises and he turned him down. The goose saw no reason he needed to work.
Fethry was another matter altogether. The lad was loveable and incorrigible. Fethry always only had good things to say but liked his cousins a lot more than him and that was a problem, so Scrooge locked him up as far away from the others as he could.
His youngest nephews were simply fascinated with his wealth and name at the moment. It didn't take much to impress them, but he knew that would fade in time. It always did. He could already see the effects of it draining off them.
Now he had a daughter to consider. He would have a hard time controlling anything she did, but she had dedicated years of her life to studying him without prompting. Finding out they were biologically related was icing on the cake.
He stoked the fire and watched the Papyrus burn. He wouldn't have anyone like Bradford try to manipulate him again. Like the last words of the scroll read: Scrooge McDuck would forever remain smarter, tougher, and sharper than all threats, friends, and family.
He had to cover all his bases now he had, and no one could ever undo it. He had learned a lesson the hard way and cut his losses. They may not forgive him if they ever found out he used it for such selfish reasons but it wasn't the worst thing he'd done.
