I was in love with my boss even before I met him. Who wouldn't be, he was charming, witty, and handsome. The fact he hired me despite the fact that I was a woman was icing on the cake. We had an untraditional working relationship and I was more than okay with that. It had been going on for four years now and he had always treated me well. Others, however, not so much. Usually, I could look past whatever schemes he was pulling but after I heard about what he was doing to the small towns out west, I had enough of his heartlessness.

"Uh oh, no coffee. What have I done this time?" Rockerduck laughed as he walked into his office.

I didn't say anything, just stood beside his desk and waited for him to cross the floor and take a seat.

"What is this?" He picked up the only piece of paper on his desk. His eyes slid over the paper and it fell from his hands. "You're resigning?"

"I've made all your usual arrangements until your next business trip which is tomorrow even but after that I will no longer be in your employment," I said my stomach felt less like butterflies and more like molten lava.

"I don't understand where are you going?" The gears in his head were working overtime and starting to combust.

It reminded me of the time he took me to watched a retired train exploded. Apparently, that was what rich people did for fun. The locomotive sat on a section of track below us and we stood several feet away. It steamed and blew smoke but didn't move. The ear peircing noise made me cringe. Then finally it got slient and I thought it had given up.

Metal piece ripped across the sky. They rained down in a fiery explosion. There was a scream a pain and I knew it had hit someone. However, no one could hear it over the roar of clapping and laughter.

I cleared my throat.

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm simply leaving Rockerduck Industries."

"I don't believe you." He seemed to run through all the possible reasons why I would leave, "You've never been in this for the money, was it something I've done. I apologize if I crossed a line that I was unaware of."

"You did cross a line, John! You stripped countless towns of their resources." He cringed like I had caught him with his pants down. "Did you think I wouldn't find out about the countless lives you've dismantled all because you didn't want to stick around and get mud on your boots! You could've really helped these people but you chose not to. So forgive me if I don't want to stay at the company that's history will be painted in blood!"

"Blood? That seems a little extreme." He smirked at me trying to get me to laugh.

I balled my fist and started to stomp out when there was a hand on my shoulder. He turned me to face him.

"Wait. Wait," he cut out the sarcasm out of his voice, "If this really bothers you then we can fix it together."

"You would do that?" I asked skeptically trying to read his face.

"If it's the cost of keeping you then I'll get my boots dirty," he mocked my earlier statement but I knew him, the sentiment was there.
