2017 Ducktales
Huey & Scrooge
Fluff & ComfortSomething seemed off in the manor, like a thick fog had descended on the place and Scrooge had been on the case for hours. He'd check every nook and cranny four times over but he couldn't seem to find anything. Now he was spinning in the office chair scowling trying to figure out if he was losing his touch. He nearly fell out of the chair when he heard the soft knock and the door slid open.
"Uncle Scrooge?" The small boy blinked in the soft light from the lamp on the desk.
"Huey, what are you doing up?" Scrooge was mildly aware that it was late, too late for the boy to awake.
"Um, nightmares," he rubbed his arm and wouldn't look at his uncle.
Scrooge sighed. Donald had told him that all the boys tended to get nightmares around their birthdays. They were afraid that they were going to lose someone else in the family.
"You don't look like you've slept either." Huey pointed out walking around the desk.
"Something doesn't feel right in the house." He scowled for a second then noticed Huey was holding something. "What you got there, my boy?"
Huey looked down at his hands.
"Oh, I found it while I was wandering around." He handed his uncle a golden envelope.
"Goldie!" He grumbled reading the neat letters. He crushed the letter slightly in his grip. "I'm gonna-"
"Com' on Uncle Scrooge. No revenge missions on zero sleep." Huey pulled him to his room.
The boy was truly selfless, unlike Scrooge. Even when he was hurting, he was helping others. It reminded him of Della.
They walked across the floor and Scrooge sat on the bed. Then he noticed Huey hadn't headed for the door yet. That reminded him of the many times Donald had done the same thing and how many times he didn't understand what he was asking. Della had always blatantly asked but Donald was always to shy to ask for help. Huey was the same and rarely ever asked for help, for himself at least.
"Want to stay here, tonight?" Scrooge offered a hand to the red triplet.
Huey just blushed and took his hand with a nod. Scrooge pulled up the covers and Huey pulled his uncle closer to him. Holding him, Scrooge remembered how small and young his nephew really was and couldn't blame him for being afraid. After all he faced, he was still afraid of losing his family too.
As his nephew fell asleep, Scrooge felt the bad energy in the manor lift and he was able to get some rest as well.
