Part Two:
The Making of Scrooge McDuck!

He had gotten a nasty habit of saving her life, and she admired him for that. He was definitely a better person than her. Not that she would admit it. She watched from the kitchen table as he cooked dinner in the abandoned cabin they had come across; the snowstorm raged outside. It was cute to watch him hum to himself like he forgot she was there.

They had known each other for seven years now and they were close. She was closer with him than anyone even her remaining family. However, no matter how close they got, he never tried to kiss her. She frowned at the thought. It wasn't a secret they were attracted to each other. She had felt him physically pull away from her several times over the years when she finally thought he worked up the nerve to make a move. Usually those times were followed by him disappearing for months on end.

She couldn't stand it. She needed to know why he kept his distance. Surely, he wasn't that much of a gentleman. So standing, she crossed the floor and stood behind him. She cleared her throat, and he hummed in response.

"How come you haven't kissed me?" She crossed her arms in a pout.

A blush crawled across his face as he turned around to face her, but he swallowed to get a hold of himself.

"Between you nearly dying and the hike here didn't seem appropriate." He thought she was joking, she realized, or talking about today specifically.

She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer. Slowly, she pressed her beak into his. He jumped back a little, pulling their lips apart.

"Oi! What was that?"

"Well it was going to be a kiss," she stated bluntly.

"I know that! Why did ya do it?" he questioned.

"Because I wanted too. Got a problem with it?" He shook his head a little and she pulled him back down towards him. It was clumsy, amtur, and cute. Then she realized.

"Oh, don't tell me that was your first kiss!" She laughed, and he wouldn't meet her gaze. "Well, I'll be. I could definitely tell."

"Yea, yea." He tried to shake her off and go back to the food.

She just pulled him back down into a longer kiss this time. He wrapped his arms around her waist and leaned into this time. She flipped the stove off and pulled him towards the couch. They landed with a hard thud.

"Graceful," she laughed. He huffed in annoyance.

She pulled her hair out of the ponytail and she watched as Scrooge ran a hand through it.

"Beautiful," he mumbled, and she noticed he was looking her in the eyes.

"Shut it," she mumbled and curled her fingers into his vest, slamming him back down.

"Easy, love," he chuckled softly as she kissed him again.

"I should've done this years ago." She slid one of hands down to his hip. He hummed and grabbed her hand. She chuckled and tried to unbutton his vest, but he grabbed that hand too. She frowned and whined, "Scroogy."

It was meant to be playful, but his eyes widened, and he shot upwards. He sat at the far end of the couch, nails digging into the cushion. He had a look of pure fear on his face. She had never seen him like, sure maybe panicked or worried but this was different. Was it something she'd done? She hadn't meant to hurt him. She went to move towards him and he shot up towards the kitchen. He picked up the pan on the stove.

"Cruse me kilts!" He screamed and dropped the pan on the counter. He had forgotten it was hot.

He marched towards the back porch. Goldie watched him pick up a ball of snow and roll it in his hand. After a minute, she walked out.

"Pan was still hot, dumby," she stated the obvious.

"You don't say," he growled.

"Look, I didn't mean to push you." She walked across the porch and kneeled beside him.

He didn't answer for a long time. He seemed to contemplate something. He looked at her and they locked eyes. He was searching for something in her eyes, and she decided not to hide anything. For once in her life, she wasn't hiding anything. She was sure he would not find whatever he was searching for, but then it seemed he did. He must've concluded he could trust her. A horrible decision really. How many times had she double crossed him this month alone? He looked off into the snow woods.

"My mother's eldest three children were named Scotyln, Hortense, and Matilda." Goldie watched as he nursed his burn. "She held Scotlyn back so they could all start school in the same year. When the teacher introduced them she got Scotlyn's name wrong."

Goldie was itching to interrupt so much didn't add up in this story. Like Scrooge was the oldest of his siblings and he only had two sisters, not three. She held her tongue. Besides, it wasn't like Scrooge to lie.

"Hortense and Matilda went to correct the teacher but Scotlyn actually liked the new name. However, my mother didn't approve. It wasn't ladylike." He rolled his eyes. "Father was supportive of it, which was rare for him. It took years for the name Scotlyn to be erased completely and it wasn't until her 16th birthday when she left America it completely vanished."

That seemed to be all he was going to say, and Goldie's mind raced.

"I don't understand. You said you were the oldest." Then, a memory surface of the first time they met. "Scotty."

"It's been a long time since anyone's called me that," his eyes cut to her and smirked, "thanks to you."

For the first time in her life, her silver tongue was lead and she just watched him. The wind whipped through the trees and a shiver went down her back. It was too cold to be having this conversation out here but she wasn't going to push any more at the moment.

"When we first met, you asked me why I hadn't asked you to dance. The truth was the thought had never occurred to me, that I could. The same why I never kissed you." He took a shaky breath. "It was easier once I left home. I don't have constant reminders but sometimes I forget that no one here knew me before."

"But you prefer that?" His head snapped towards her like he didn't understand the question. He nodded and swallowed like she might reject him. "That's not a good look for you Scroogy. Where's that annoying confidence I've grown to hate?"

However, before he could answer she surged forward, wrapping her arms around him, beaks centimeters apart. She smirked and waited for him to close the gap. He did after a second, and she almost didn't believe that this was his first - second - kiss. Though she didn't tease him about it because she didn't want a reaction like before.

When they separated, something glinted in his eyes that was warm and too mushy for her taste. Goldie couldn't stop an eye roll or a blush as she stood.

"We need to get in before we freeze our tail feathers off." She pulled him up and inside the cabin.

He was right; h̶e̶ ̶u̶s̶u̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶. He could trust her with this.
