We reached the end of the maze. José grabbed the golden trinket in the middle of the room. The room shifted and arrows shot out of the wall with dramtic whipping noises. I grabbed José and ran down the floor. My ears rang and the mud wall blurred together as we ran. We fell out onto the jungle's ground.

José helped me stand, and I looked down. The golden idol was lying on the ground. I tried to grab it, but my side protested. Just below Jose's arm, an arrow was stuck in my side and my shirt was stained red around it. I touched my side. It stung, and the bloodstained my fingers.

I heard my name, and I looked back up.

"Me desculpe. Eu estava sendo estúpido. I didn't know there was a," José was rambling. I cut him off.

"You dropped it." I tried to get him to focus on something other than me.

He blinked. "What?"

I pointed at the idol.

"The monkey. You dropped it." Blood drummed in my ears. He looked at it and then back at me. He was speaking, but I could barely hear him.

"Quão estúpido? Eu deveria saber." My eyes drift back towards him.

"You're not stupid."

"You're going," he promised something, but I couldn't hear him over my own heart.

He should be worried about himself. We were still in the middle of a hostel environment with no way of telling the guys where we were. My knees gave out under me. José caught me from clasp completely, but the ground was slick. I heard the birds tweeting, animals chattering, and a motor somewhere close.

"They'll be here any second," he said.

I was aware of his panic, but could only process snippets. I forced myself to a sitting position. His hands hovered around of me like bees. He didn't know if he should touch me or where.

"Fine. I'm fine," I mumbled, but from his face I knew I screwed. I leaned on him more. "Just hold me."

"No," he whispered, wrapping his arms around me. "You'll be okay."

"What happened?" Donald asked, jumping out of the car. When had he got here? He pressed on my stomach.

"Ow. That kinda hurt." From José's reaction, that was the wrong thing to say. "It's alright, Casanova."

I tried to assure him and tried to stand. José squeezed me, holding me down. Something was hastily wrapped around my waist. There was some yelling and Panchito lifted me. He laid me in the back seat of a rusting green jeep. José jumped in beside me and pulled me into his lap.

One hand threaded through my hair. The other was wrapped around the my unharmed side. I tried to grab his hand but I couldn't find it. My head pressed into his chest. I attempted to look at him but hissed in pain.

"No, mi amor. Don't move. You'll be okay."

"Did we get it?" I asked, still destracting him and myself.

"Yes me amor. We go it, mas guarde suas forças," he whispered in my ear.

We had completed the mission. I couldn't even remember why it was important. Just that it lead to me watching the jungle blurring into a shades of green until my vision went white.
