Hermione found this summer seemed to go by faster than a bolt of lightning. Of course, it may have something to do with her having the most fun she had ever had in her entire life. She couldn't help herself with reading ahead of time all of her textbooks and practicing her spells such as charms and potions. Even though her Grandma explained to her it was against the law to do underage magic, they both proceeded to laugh it off and do it anyway.
Hermione spent most of her time with her Grandma those days instead of her parents. They were there of course, but they were still trying to adjust to the fact their daughter was now a witch and Grandma was something known as a squib and had friends and family living in the wizarding world as well. She enjoyed listening to Grandma telling Hermione about the different things there such as Hogsmeade where there was Honeydukes with their most wonderful tasting candies and such and the Three Broomsticks with wonderful butterbeer and what have you.
However, Hermione enjoyed the most of the mythical creatures that Grandma Elka told her. From nifflers and dragons to giants and gnomes, Hermione listened to everything that her Grandma told her about each and everyone. Grandma Elka even expressed her favorite creature the Thestral.
"They are these black winged horses with a skeletal body, who can't be seen unless you witness death. Sadly, they've been picked on as a bad omen because of that. Truthfully, I feel like they are more like a comfort animal in a time of need." Grandma Elka stated to Hermione after handing her a copy of Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander.
Soon it came time for Hermione to leave for Hogwarts. They were at the train station, just her and Grandma Elka walking down to catch the right train. Mom and Dad were still baffled by all of this and even Grandma suggested that it was the best for them.
"Okay, now we must get to Platform 9 and 3/4." Grandma mumbled.
"But Grandma, there's no such thing... is there?" Hermione asked her. Grandma chuckled.
"Sweetie, you're going to a magical school for witchcraft. Keep an open mind... unless it's for Divination then you can say there's no such thing. The professor there is a crackpot! I've told them time and time again, they should get a centaur in there to teach such things. They know better. Of course, I respect they have the right to say 'no', but if we're going to teach it then it would be best if it was taught by someone who actually knows these things." Grandma Elka explained to her. Hermione nodded her head. It took a while till finally they reached the third pillar with the number nine on it.
"Okay, best to do with a bit of a run." Grandma Elka suggested to her. Hermione took a deep breath before she and her Grandma rushed towards the brick pillar. She was ready to came slamming into the wall. However it didn't came. Instead she was on a new platform full of people just like her. Grandma led her thorough the crowds, which she couldn't help but listen in on some of their conversations.
"Gran, I've lost my toad again." a boy told an older woman.
"Oh, Neville!" The woman shot at him.
"Give us a look, Lee, go on!" another boy lifted the box in his arms where people around him began to shriek and yell at whatever it was inside the box.
Hermione rounded the corner with her Grandma, who lightly brushed her shoulders from the wrinkles of her robes, as they passed a rather large family of four red headed boys, one red headed girl, and their mother who was getting after a pair, named Fred and George.
"Okay, you're going to do great! Now don't forget to focus on your studies, but not too must where you're not having fun and making friends. Oh, I almost forgot!" Grandma Elka said while pulling out a baggie from her coat, "Some treats in case you are feeling slightly peckish. Now off with you. Have fun, dearie!"
Hermione proceeded onto the train, still holding her bag she had filled with her books, as she waved back at her Grandma before vanishing into the compartments.
