Hermione sat on the couch, staring at the fireplace, thinking about what Jordan had told her. She knew she shouldn't be thinking about it too much, but she couldn't stop thinking about how terrible it must have been to witness your own brother dying in front of you. Her thoughts were quickly cut off though when the sound of the door opening caused her to turn and see Harry walking into the common room.
"What kept you?" Ron asked from the rug laying in front of the fireplace where he was trying to work on his homework. Harry made his way over till he sat onto the couch with Hermione.
"Are you alright?" she asked him, "is it about Cho?"
"Um-- she... she--er--" Harry tried to speak, but seem tongue-tied.
"Did you kiss?" Hermione asked, figuring out what was going on. Harry slightly nodded, earning a chuckle from Ron.
"How was it?" Ron asked.
"Wet." Harry answered, "Because she was crying."
"Oh-- are you that bad at kissing?" Ron asked.
"Of course, you're not." Hermione told him.
"How do you know?" Ron asked.
"Because Cho spends half her time crying these. She does it at mealtimes, in the loos, all over the place. Luna even mentioned how she cries herself to sleep at night." Hermione explained to him.
"You'd think a bit of kissing would cheer her up." Ron mumbled.
"Ron, honestly, you can be the most insensitive wart I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Don't you understand how she's feeling at the moment?" she asked them. The blank expression they had on their faces told her everything, "Well, obviously, she's feeling sad because of Cedric dying. Then I expect she's confused because she liked him and now she likes Harry and con't figure out who she likes best. Which of course, she feels guilty bout it, thinking it's an insult to Cedric's memory to be kissing Harry, so she's worried about what everyone else is going to say if she goes out with him. On top of this, she probably can't work out what her feelings towards Harry are anyway because he was the one who witnessed Cedric died, so that's all very mixed up and painful. Also she's afraid she's going to be thrown off the Ravenclaw Quidditch team because she's been flying so badly."
"One person can't feel all that at once, they'd explode." Ron mumbled.
"Just because you've got the emotional range of a teaspoon doesn't mean we all have." Hermione shot at him.
"But she was the one who started it! I wouldn't have-- she-- she came at me--" Harry mumbled under his breath.
"Don't blame yourself, mate," Ron said.
"Listen, Harry. You just have to be nice to her that's all." Hermione advised him, "So when are you going to see her again?"
"I-- I don't know. I mean... when I pictured myself with Cho, she-- she was happy to be with me... but now... I don't know." Harry mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck, clearly uncomfortable at the thought of someone still hung up with someone of the past. Hermione lightly patted his shoulder before mumbling to them how she was going to bed then headed up to her dorm room.
Hermione woke to the sound of people shouting and the rushing of footsteps. She sat up in bed as she saw Professor McGonagall leaning over Ginny's bed. She pushed herself onto the edge of the bed.
"What's going on?" Hermione asked them.
"Miss Granger this does not concern you. Go back to bed. Miss Weasley, please come with me." McGonagall ordered as they hurried out the room, leaving Hermione confused and frankly quite frightened.
