Harry and Hermione kept repeating the memory that they had witnessed to Ron as they were trying to figure out what they had seen and tried to figure out what they were going to do about it. They suggested maybe to ask Hagrid but Ron had made a good point that it wouldn't be right if they suggested it. In the end, they decided they wouldn't say anything unless there was another attack.

Soon they had changed their focus for a brief minute when it came time for them to choose their subjects. Harry and Ron whined how they wished they could get rid of Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts because they can't stand it. Hermione had decided to signed up for everything because she couldn't decide what she wanted. However, she didn't have time when suddenly Neville came running, gasping for air.

"Harry! I don't know who did it! But someone destroyed our dorm!" Neville shouted. Quickly as they could, the three of them hurried out of the Great Hall and towards the dorms. Upon entering the boys' dorms, Hermione gasped as her eyes scanned the room. It was completely destroyed, feathers flowing throughout the air, and things all tossed around carelessly.

"It had to be a Gryffindor. No one knows our password." Hermione told them as she felt even more insecure at the real thought that crossed her head. She feared that it was Barty again, who was learning for something. Harry and Ron scurried around the room, their eyes gazing around while they attempted to pick things up.

"Whoever it was, they found what they were looking for." Harry pointed out, "Riddle's diary is gone."

The next morning, Hermione had decided to take her leave to the library to figure out more about the creature living underneath the school while Harry and Ron had went to the Quidditch match. Hermione was scanning through books when she heard it. The voice.

"Kill this time... rip... tear..."

Hermione's head shot up, her eyes wandering about in the air to find any hint of where it was going. She gazed back down on her book as she turned the page to find something dropping out of the book. She peered down on the ground as she picked up a crumbled up, ripped page of a book. She un-crumbled the paper as she straightened it out. Her eyes scanned the page. It was about a certain creature known as the Basilisk, a large serpent with a deadly glance that is extremely fatal if one was to look straight through its eyes.

"This is it..." Hermione said as she remembered Harry being about to hear the creature speak. It made sense. But if it was a large creature how could it be getting around without being noticed. Hermione tapped her fingers on the table top for a minute till it popped into her head. Pipes! It's using the plumbing to allow itself to slither around.

She held her hand tightly around the page as she was going to go straight to Harry and Ron to inform them. However, just as Hermione was scurrying out, a thought came into her head. The Basilisk's sight is deadly. If she just happened to have a run in with the creature, she could very well die. She gazed around in search for something to help her on her way to the Quidditch Field.

Hermione turned her head to see Madam Pince opening her drawer and pull out a box with the words 'Lost and Found'. Sticking right out of the box was the handle of what looked like a small hand mirror. Hermione peered over her shoulder while pulling her wand out. She let out a small firework and sent it flying across the library. A loud crackling sound caused Madam Pince to jump out of her desk.

"Merlin's Beard! Who was that?" Madam Pince screamed as she rushed away from her desk. Hermione waited a minute before rushing over to the desk. She grabbed the handle of the mirror before hurrying away so she didn't get caught. Upon exiting the library, she held the mirror up so she could gaze into it. She was slow and careful as she slide across the wall in search of her safest way to the field.

"What are you doing?" Hermione jolted a bit as she used the mirror to look behind her. It was a fifth-year Ravenclaw girl, who was looking at Hermione like she had lost her mind. Hermione opened her mouth to explain to her when the girl screamed. It merely lasted a second when suddenly she was frozen to a stone-like stance. She watched as the girl fell to the ground onto her back. Hermione's heart pounded within her chest as she saw a pair of golden eyes revealed in the glass. She waited for her body to freeze up... to be Petrified by the creature... but she was still unfrozen. She didn't feel her body turn into a stone-like feel or like she was dying.

Cautiously, Hermione turned around, lowering her mirror to her side till she was looking the beast in the face. It was just as Hermione had predicted it to be. It was indeed a Basilisk. It had silver-brown scales with large fangs that were ancient but still sharp and deadly and horns poking from its head and large in length and width. Hermione stared at it as it stared right back to it.

Soon it let out a shrieking sound before it lowered its head. It began to lightly press its face against her own. It did this until the sound of footsteps coming towards them caused it to be spooked and it proceeded to slither backwards and headed the way it had come. The moment Hermione couldn't see the end of its tail, she felt herself grow lightheaded and faint.
