Hermione stared terrified as the Troll stared right back at her. She didn't know what to do. She may have read a lot about Trolls but that didn't mean she was ready to fight one! Her heart pounded within her chest, her mind raced with trying to figure out what to do. For a moment it was blank until she remembered the strange letter.

There's nothing strange or bad about befriending beasts...

Could this be what the message was informing her about? Hermione gulped as she took a step towards the troll.

"Um... hi?"Hermione spoke. The Troll stood silent for a moment before making a loud grunting sound and raising his club high over its head.

Harry couldn't help but worry about Hermione. He knew they weren't close or anything but still, Hermione was hurt by what Ron said. Harry felt guilty actually for making Hermione cry and make her hide away in the bathroom. Sure, she can be annoying and bossy, but she was still kind and caring. If Harry actually stopped to think about it, Hermione was there to help them not actually try to control their life. And she wasn't as bad as Dudley and Malfoy were. At least she was trying to be friendly and not only watch their backs, but also help out with school work and such. And how did they repay it? By calling her a nightmare and saying she didn't have any friends.

Harry didn't have time to dwell on it when suddenly Quirrell came running into the hall screaming about aTroll being in the dungeons. Of course, everyone soon was lead back to their dorms so they weren't in danger. However, halfway up to their common room, Harry gasped as he grabbed Ron's arms.

"Ron! Hermione!" He mumbled.

"What about her?"

"She doesn't know!" Harry reminded him. They both ran through the corridors, trying to search for the girl's bathroom. On their way there, Harry stopped when he noticed a funky smell. He turned his head and gasped. The troll was standing in the middle of the courtyard. Maybe he's going to leave now Harry thought and was about to turn to go back on his way when he heard a high-pitched scream. Harry and Ron turned to see the troll now looking up with his hands outstretched in front of him before something... or someone landed right into its hand.

"HERMIONE!" Harry and Ron screamed together as they ran over to where the courtyard. They entered the courtyard in time to see the Troll had flung Hermione back into the air again. Harry pulled out his wand, ready to do something to help Hermione. Until she came flying back down and was caught in the Troll's hands, Harry could have sworn he heard laughter. Harry shoot his arm out in front of Ron to stop him from moving closer.

"What are you doing? It was your idea to help her?" Ron said.

"I don't think she needs rescuing." Harry mumbled. Ron opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Hermione's screams of 'Again! Again!' and the Troll did exactly that and carefully tossed her in the air but it still shot high up. Soon Hermione was caught again and the air was filled with her laughter again along with a...

"What on earth is going on?" Harry and Ron turned to see Professor McGonagall standing right beside Snape and Quirrell. All three of them were looking up at Hermione who was still laughing with the troll. Harry and Ron stood there stunned. They had no idea what the say about the whole thing themselves. Hermione took noticed as she turned her attention to them, but so did the troll. The Troll started to get antsy, making grumbling noised when Hermione raised her hands.

"It's okay! They're not going to hurt you. You should put me down so I can explain. Do you understand?" Hermione told the Troll. The Troll stood there for a minute, darting its eyes around before it bend down and gently set Hermione on the ground. McGonagall rushed past Harry and Ron as she took Hermione in her grasp and pulling her as far from the Troll as possible.

"Professor, please don't hurt the Troll! It didn't mean any harm." Hermione pleaded with McGonagall. McGonagall was still dumbstruck by the whole scene in front of her and who could blame her. She had just witnessed a first year tame a Troll and was playing with it! Soon McGonagall turned to look at Harry and Ron.

"You... You... you three what are you doing here? You should be in your dorms!" McGonagall stated to them. Harry opened his mouth to explained when Hermione opened her mouth.

"They were looking for me." Hermione said, earning all the Professors' confused looks, especially Snape's look of disbelief.

"Miss Granger?"

"I wasn't feeling so good, so I was in the bathroom when all the commotion had happened. Harry and Ron must have came looking for me to bring me back to the dorms to avoid the troll." Hermione lied. Harry couldn't believe. Hermione Granger, lying?

"But how did you manage to... to... to do this?" McGonagall asked, pointing at the Troll, who was now sitting down with its legs crossed. Hermione shrugged her shoulders.

"I accidentally ran into it and we've sort of... bonded." Hermione stated to her. McGonagall didn't speak, clearly trying to figure out what to believe. Soon McGonagall took a deep breath before slowly letting it out, her eyes darting between the three of them.

"Well... in that case..." She said, "If you're not hurt at all, you three may return to your dorms. I appoint five points for Gryffindor each for Mister Weasley and Mister Potter for being caring enough to come find Miss Granger and help her. And to Miss Granger... fifty points.... for the most sheer dumb luck I have ever seen."

McGonagall then motioned for them to hurry into the castle and back to their dorms. On the way up, Harry couldn't help but pledge to himself to be friends with Hermione. After all, he had witnessed her make a poltergeist fearful of her, and had befriended Mrs. Norris, a three-headed dog, and a troll. He didn't know what it was about Hermione and creatures, but it was powerful... and he sure didn't want to be on her bad side and face the wrath of what she could do with this gift.
