"Why would You-Know-Who have a locket?" Harry asked while they sat at the dining table, "It doesn't make any sense."
"Maybe it has magical properties that we don't know about," Hermione suggested to them. They paused when people began walking in, chattering up a storm about different things. Moody and Tonks arrived to come and escort them to St. Mungo's. While they were making their way to St. Mungo's, Tonks was interested in what Harry had saw last night and began asking him questions about it. Hermione could see Harry had a look of annoyance on his face. Luckily, Harry was able to get in between Fred and George to get away from Tonks.
"Where is St. Mungo's?" Harry suddenly asked.
"Not far from here," Moody told him while they walked down the street with tons of people were zooming around trying to finish last minute shopping for Christmas. Hermione took hold of Harry's hand so she didn't get lost in the crowd of shoppers, "Wasn't easy to find a good location for a hospital. Nowhere in Diagon Alley was big enough and we couldn't have it underground like the Ministry--unhealthy. In the end end they managed to get hold of a building up here. Theory was sick wizards could come and go and just blend in with the crowd... here we go."
They stood in front of a large, old-fashioned red brick department store called Purge and Dowse Ltd. The place had a shabby, miserable air; the window displays consisted of a few chipped dummies with their wigs askew, standing at random and modeling fashions at least ten years out of date. Large signs on all the dusty doors read closed for refurbishment.
"Right," Tonks said before motioning them to the window display, "Wotcher... we're here to see Arthur Weasley."
The dummy didn't move for a moment before suddenly nodding its head and beckoned its jointed finger. Tonks took hold of Ginny and Mrs. Weasley as they hurried through the window. I won't ever be used to all this magic stuff, Hermione admitted to herself before they hurried through the window. Once they past through, they found themselves in a busy reception area where rows of witches and wizards sat upon rickety wooden chairs, some looking perfectly normal and perusing out of date copies of Witch Weekly, others sporting gruesome disfigurements such as elephant trunks or extra hands sticking out of their chests. The room was completely loud with strange, peculiar noises. A sweaty-face witch in the center of the front row, who was fanning herself vigorously with a copy of the Daily Prophet kept letting off a high-pitched whistle as steam came pouring of her mouth and a grubby-looking warlock in the corner clang like a bell every time he moved.
Witches and wizards in lime-green robes were walking up and down the rows, asking questions and making notes on clipboards like Umbridge's. Hermione noticed the emblem embroidered on their chests: a wand and bone, crossed.
"Are they doctors?" Harry asked Ron.
"Doctors?" Ron said, "those muggle nutters that cut people up? Hah, their Healers."
Hermione opened her mouth to say something about Ron's attitude when Mrs. Wesley motioned them over to the desk marked Inquiries. The wall behind her was covered in notices and posters saying things like A Clean Cauldron Keeps Potions From Becoming Poisons and Antidotes are Anti-Don'ts Unless Apporved by a Qualified Healer. There was also a Portrait of a witch with the label "Dilys Derwent: St. Mungo's Healer 1722-1741 Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, 1741-1768"
"That's the witch Dumbledore had asked to look for Mr. Weasley," Harry informed Hermione. A man with shoes eating his feet was being scowled by the witch behind the desk to inform him where he needs to go. While the man hurried along, Hermione turned her head to read the floor guide:
Artifact Accidents....... Ground Floor
(Cauldron explosion, wand backfiring, broom crashes, etc.)Creature-induced Injuries.......... First Floor
(Bites, stings, burns, embedded spines, etc.)
