Chapter 28 - Xuanwu's Cave

"Jiang Cheng, earthquake?"

Jiang Cheng looked beneath him, then back at Wei Wuxian, he shook his head no. This got Lan Wangji to look at Wei Wuxian with a concerned expression on his face.

"What?"

Jiang Cheng and Jin Zixuan look at the moving rock in the water, "something underneath your feet is moving?"

A head breached the water before he could respond back to him. Wei Wuxian covered Wen Chao's mouth when he saw the creature . The creature was large and had a resemblance to a tortoise and a snake, it had bright yellowish red eyes and sharp piercing teeth each half an arms length long... Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji looked frightened by the creature who glared down at them.

'Fuck!' Wei Wuxian thought.

"Don't move or make a sound. It can't see or hear you if you don't make a sound, it will not hurt us," Lan Wangji warned them quietly.

'Breathe carefully, Wei Wuxian... I wish to be safe and sound at home, picking lotus pods with Shijie.'

That was when everything went into chaos, as Wen Chao shouted to Wen Zhuliu, "Wen Zhuliu! Save me!" Wei Wuxian threw the sword at the direction of the creature to get it attention.

"Stupid!" Jiang Cheng spat out.

"Couldn't agree more," Lan Qiren agreed.

Thought some of this screening, Lan Qiren was starting to rethink his actions towards Wei Wuxian. Seeing what has happened so far and seeing just how much Wei Wuxian would do for his youngest nephew. His heart was starting to change for the boy. Wei Wuxian didn't have to help Lan Wangji or anyone else, and take care of his own safety, but he doesn't and helps others instead of himself.

"Shufu?" Lan Xichen asked, "you've been very quiet. Are you feeling any better?"

"I'm fine," He said in response, "just thinking over some things."

"Oh," Xichen said, "I'm here if you want to talk about it."

Lan Qiren nodded but kept quiet for now until he can really get his words together properly.

The Wen clan shot their arrows at the creature but it didn't do anything at all. They were now scared out of their wits.

"Leave us alone!" Wei Wuxian spat as he threw a fire talisman at the creature's face but it did nothing.

It started to attack anyone who was in range of it's reach. The Wen clan backed away from the shore line. Jin Zixuan, Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian, all four of them attacked creature the best they could, with all they could. Nothing seem to work as the skin of the beast seemed impenetrable. It had them questioning if it was even possible to kill.

Meanwhile, Wang Lingjiao had her hateful and envious eyes on Mian Mian. She held a Wen clan iron in her hand and held it over a torch. She was heating the iron so that she can imprint it to Mian Mian's face.

"What are you doing? Someone help!" Mian Mian cried.

With bow and a few arrows in his hand, Wei Wurian turned around and took a shot toward Lingjiao. It hit her and the two men holding Mian Mian. Wang Lingjiao didn't stop there as she threw the hot iron at Mian Mian. Wei Wurian raced forward and jumped right in front of Mian Mian, taking the hot iron to his chest, leaving a slight smell of burning flesh and clothes.
