Wei Wuxian's eyes were closed and not wanting to open. The fatigue was far to great for him and of what seemed to be a bed, was comfortable for him to lay on. As his mind became more clear the fatigue started to lift off of him and his eyes were willing to cooperate and open. At first, his vision was unclear, making everything a blur. He couldn't make out anything in the room.
He could feel a wetness on his face, almost as if he was crying. He was passed out, but woke with tears on his face. He thought he had such a bittersweet dream, having visions of his past life, but then being back to see an old acquaintance, more memories flooded back. Some memories he wished he could forget, such as the dark memories of death and betrayal.
Soon, his eyes adjusted to the room and he managed to get a good look around. The furniture in the place was extremely simplistic, without any unnecessary belongings. On the accordion partition, there was a painting of drifting clouds, floating and morphing with its fine brushwork. A guqin table lay horizontally in front of it. On top of the three-legged incense stand in the corner, a hollowed out incense burner made of white jade
emitted a soft, lingering smoke, which was where a familiar smell came from. That smell had a way of tugging one's heartstrings, filled the whole room with the chilling scent of sandalwood. He started to think about random thoughts. Lan Zhan happened to smell like this scent. His clothes were always tinged with the fragrance when he was practicing his guqin or meditating...anywhere really.
The moment Lan Zhan came into his mind, he remembered encounter at Dafan. He remembered he managed to disgust Jiang Cheng enough to leave him alone for the time being, but then he remembered Lan Zhan saying he'd take him back to Gusu. Looking around the room with a clear mind and clear sight, the colors, blue and white, the cloud patterns, and the tranquility, he knew he was, in fact, in Gusu...Cloud Recesses to be more specific.
Still thinking do Lan Zhan, he turned his head again to look through the room once more. That was when he saw him. The pristine second jade, wearing white robes and his 'conducting oneself' forehead ribbon. His headgear and ornaments were off though, his long dark angelic silk-like hair laid comfortably and relaxed over his shoulders. Lan Wangji was actually sitting at the table at his guqin. Wei Wuxian smiled as he saw the familiar face. He hoped they could mend their relationship, or whatever relationship they once had.
He then remembered his sons. Remembering Jin Ling, he was in his teens. His sons were around the same age. He wondered if he had come across them at all. He only just met the juniors and he doesn't know them by name yet, but he remembers the names he and Wangji picked out, Sizhui and Jingyi. Maybe he heard the names being exchanged once, but he wasn't sure.
...
"You did think of us?" Jingyi said, it was almost said as a question.
"I think of you two all the time," Wei Ying told them, "I think of you two just as equally as I think about Lan Zhan."
"So every second of every day," Lan Xichen stated.
"Pretty much," Wei Ying answered, "they are my family...so of course I would think of them all the time."
"And you can continue to," Sizhui told him.
"I second that," Jingyi said in agreement.
"I am definitely okay with it," Lan Zhan told him.
Wei Ying smiled at them. The three most precious people in his life. He felt blessed to have such amazing sons, and an incredible husband.
