Following the left hand's direction, the two went toward the northwest. They duetted Rest every single day, in order to temporarily calm its anger and killing intent. As the travelled near Qinghe, the posture that the arm maintained to show them the way suddenly changed. Its index finger curled back, and it formed a fist.
This meant that what the hand pointed at was just around the area. They inquired into the matter as they travelled, and arrived at a small city in Qinghe. It was daytime. The streets were crowded with people hurrying to and fro as Wei Wuxian trotted behind Lan Wangji.
"You're not as vocal this time around," Lan Wangji pointed out.
"Huh?" Wei Wuxian questions.
Wei Wuxian was lost in his thoughts through most of the traveling. In his mind, he knows he should be grateful for a second chance of living, but he feels like he shouldn't be around. His sins burry deep within his heart, and he can never erase them.
"I just don't have much to say," Wei Wuxian told him.
"Like I said, you are not as vocal," Lan Wangji said.
Normally, Lan Wangji would be perfectly fine with silence or not talking. With Wei Wuxian though, he knows the man always has a knack for talking about whatever he pleases. He would talk monologues length worth of topics if given the chance, but the only thing he really did was ask what has been happening since he was resurrected.
"Sorry," Wei Wuxian said, "I guess I just, don't know what to say about anything right now."
Lan Wangji took a glance over at him, and could see pain, sorrow, and guilt in his eyes, "I know deep down you have a lot to figure out, but you are not alone this time, Wei Ying."
"Why are you helping me?" Wei Wuxian asked, "with the mask on, how did you know it was me?"
"Think for yourself on how I knew it was you," Lan Wangji told him and sped up his walking speed.
...
"Really?" Wen Qing asked Wei Wuxian, "it was obvious earlier how he figured out it was you."
"You think my brain knew that at the time? You know how long it's been since..." Wei Wuxian was going to continue but didn't.
He realized he played the song a couple of times before running into Lan Wangji. He heard Lan Wangji sing it to him in the cave and he didn't even consider it.
"Never mind," Wei Wuxian said defeated.
"It's okay, Wei Ying, you had a lot of things in your mind back then, so it is understandable," Lan Wangji reassured him.
Wei Wuxian nodded and rested his head on Lan Wangji's chest. Lan Wangji wrapped his arm around him and placed his hand on Wei Wuxian's waist. His other hand was placed in Wei Wuxian's face as he planted a kiss on his forehead. Wei Wuxian felt himself move into Lan Wangji's touch. He turned his face further into Lan Wangji's warm and gentle hand and held it there on his face with his own hand. He felt at peace being held by Lan Wangji and he wanted to remain that way.
...
After walking for some distance, Wei Wuxian unintentionally turned around. Lan Wangji was behind him, still standing at the same place, staring toward his direction. Wei Wuxian couldn't help but slowed his footsteps. He didn't know why, but he vaguely felt that maybe he shouldn't walk so fast, leaving Lan Wangji behind like this.
At this point, someone on the side shouted, "The YiLing Patriarch, five coins for one, ten coins for three!"
Wei Wuxian, "Who?!"
