Wei Ying sat fidgeting as Lan Zhan gracefully played for him, bored out of his mind and Lan Zhan wouldn't even dignify any of his teasing with a response!

Wei Ying grumbled and pouted, "Lan Zhan, I'm actually fi-"

"Quit," Lan Zhan cut him off, "Concentrate."

Wei Ying sighed and pouted some more, rubbing his nose as if plotting before doing as he was told, yet, he kept fidgeting. He crossed his legs, then uncrossed them, then crossed them again, all while Lan Zhan played focusing intently.

...

Yanli chuckled a little, as did Jiang Fengman. Wei Wurian could never sit still.

"Do you have to laugh at me every time?" Wei Ying asked.

"You cannot sit still, how on earth do you expect us not to laugh at you being pouty?" Jiang Fengmian asked.

"If you have a hard time finding a way to meditate, you haven't found a good way to focus. You need to find a method that works for you, not how others put on you," Lan Qiren said as he observed his meditation, "there are many ways to learn meditation. There are different forms of meditation as well. If you want some guidance, I'd be happy to sit down and help you with that."

"Thank you," Wei Ying said, "I appreciate it, Grandmaster Lan."

"You can call me Lan Qiren, Uncle, or Shufu, if you comfortable enough to do so."

Wei Ying nodded, "thank you."

...

He sat still, but only for a minute or two before he snapped his eyes open again and flung his wrists around, stretching and proving he was fine.

Wei Ying smiled, "Lan Zhan! I'm fine." He cheered.

Lan Zhan sighed, making his way over, "Three more days are needed."

Wei Ying gasped, standing in outrage, "I'm really fine!" He insisted, smiling, "See!"

"Exorcise evil, ease the mind." Lan Zhan cut in, "Do not be neglectful."

Wei Ying frowned, "Exorcise evil?" He scoffed, "I don't need an exorcism, I've just spent too much spiritual power."

Lan Zhan didn't reply, instead, his eyes trailed down to Wei Ying's uncomfortably thin stature, to where the amulet rested. Wei Ying followed his gaze, as the amulet stirred defensively, uncomfortably awakened beneath his skin and he lifted a hand to tame it.

Lan Zhan barely flinched, but he noticed Wei Ying's sudden discomfort, "Wei Ying..." He murmured, pulling him back to reality.

Wei Ying's doe eyes met his once again, "Lan Zhan, do you also think the Stygian Tiger Amulet is evil and will disturb my mind?" He asked. "But in this world is there such an undetectable thing? That could really change me or anyone? From loyalty to treachery, from good to evil?"

Lan Zhan didn't have an answer, just looked back at Wei Ying's chest. The silence simmered and the hurt Wei Ying felt grew. He wasn't trusted. He was a risk. He was compromised. He couldn't bear seeing that in Lan Wangji's eyes. Then screams were heard, slicing through the silence. Pleading for mercy and orders for blood, cries of women, men, and possibly children made Wei Ying's heartache with worry.

...

Lan Xichen choked, "Children?" He asked and he actually heard children's screams, "there were children?"

Wei Ying chuckled, "Sect-Leader-Jin... is not a good man. He played the other sects like an instrument. Perfect with no errors. Managing to manipulate you all into believing that every single Wen, was evil."
