Wei Ying was now at Carp Tower, crouched behind a statue, hiding, and watching his sister and her mother-in-law mourn. His lips trembled, he had done it again. He had ripped apart another family.

How many is that now? Three? He thought, watching Madam Jin fall to the floor, crying for her lost son. Wei Ying looked down, his lips wobbling, 'oh god what have I do-'

"Who is there?"

Wei Ying flinched, stepping back behind the pillar, he took a breath before running.

"Wei Wuxian!" Madan Jin screamed, "Somebody get him! Kill him!!!" She wailed.

Wei Ying sobbed, glancing briefly at his Shijie, his heart shattering at the sight of her tears, before fleeing Carp Tower.

Approaching Nightless City, Wei Ying's fury built with every step. He was clutchinq Chenging in a tight grip, blood dripping from his fist as he glared with murderous eyes at the large archway before him, blocked by disciples.

Of course, he was the topic of conversation.

However, he ignored their uneducated words in favour of looking up, he wished he hadn't. There handing like ornaments were the corpses of his family, his friends, granny Wei and Uncle four...

...

Everyone gasped in horror at the sight. They had no idea what had happened to the Wens after they turned themselves in, but this was too much. They were innocent...The amount of anger was suffocating. Even when the clans knew all the remaining Wens were elderly... they still...

...

Wei Ying clenched his fists.

Wei Ying clenched his jaw tightly, his teeth grinding together.

He felt wronged.

For the first time in his life, Wei Ying felt mistreated. Even if he had meant to kill Jin Zixuan and Jin Zixun, how dare people blame him for it after everything the two had done to him. How dare they be angry for the deaths at Qionghe way when he had been ambushed, or, when the Wens had been brutally abused.

How. Dare. They!

He wasn't angry when Jin Guangshan berated him. Only, now, when he has nothing left but his demons, is he angry, is he deservingly angry. None of these people deserved to hate him.

"Heh, but if Wei Wuxian, that dog ever comes out of his cave again, hah, well I'll-"

"You'll what?" Wei growled, seemingly calm despite the storm of lightning and thunder and crashing waves inside of him.

All the low-level cultivators scrambled back, drawing their swords, "I-It's Wei Wuxian!"

"It's the ghost flute Chengqing!"

"Somebody kill him!"

Resentful Smoke began to rain off of Wei Ying, the resentful spirits squealing in delight as their burning scent filled the air. Wei Ying said nothing, eyes murderous as he lifted his flute to his lips, playing just a few notes to send these idiots barreling toward the ground, pinned there by the smoke. Though, like always, he waited until they attacked first.

Wei Ying's face barely moved as he spoke, they weren't sure what was more terrifying, yelling, or silence, "Why did you stop talking?" He murmured, "About how to deal with me?"

A disciple struggled to breathe under all the resentful energy, "Wei Wuxian! I-if you really a-are so capable! Why don't you go to the mobilization meeting to compete with the clan leaders there, w-why pick on low-level cultivators like us?"
