This chapter may contain spoilers for Beyblade Burst Quadrive/Dynamite Battle up to episode 14. I say may contain because I change up something to reflect a change in the show at that point, but I'm not sure the change means anything at all by itself. It will probably get you thinking now that I've mentioned it, though. Just skip the part where Shu is describing the bladers before the battle to avoid. The paragraph right after Gabe, to be clear.

"So how are you all?" Dad asked across the FaceTime call.

"We're all super awesome!" Bel said excitedly, leaning close to the red ipad that Father was holding on his lap. He felt someone tap on his shoulder and looked up to see Jamie staring at him. "Too close to the screen?" Bel asked.

"Yeah, I kinda want to see," Jamie said dryly.

Bel chuckled sheepishly and leaned back on the couch. It was nighttime and he, Jamie, and Father were sitting down and doing a video call with Dad. Probably because the one in Mexico needed supervising, he was kind of disaster prone. Like not totally disaster prone, but, apparently, Dad'd once wandered into an underground battle area. And then decided to battle despite the fact that he could lose Valtryek. Sometimes Bel wondered about his family.

"So why are you all so great?" Dad asked. It looked like he was in the kitchen of their house and, by the look of things, trying to heat up food. The fact that he was in the kitchen was probably accounting for the look of great fear on Father's face.

"Well-" Jamie began. Before Bel cut her off. He was somewhat overtired and way too excited. Not a good combination for a calm Demon Prince.

"So we got to go out into the city and we met this guy named Payne and he helped us because we were lost and we got to do a battle royale and-well, Den won," Bel grumbled the last bit. He then resumed speaking at high speed. "but other than that everything was super awesome and I had a great breakfast and," He stopped speaking. Not because he didn't have anything else to say but because he had thoroughly exhausted his supply of breath.

"A battle royale? That's awesome!" Dad said, his voice shining with genuine enthusiasm. He leaned in toward the camera, his brown eyes shining. Really almost anything about blading made Bel's parents get excited. "Jamie, did you battle too?"

Jamie shook her head. "It was too chilly out for me," She explained.

It looked like Jamie was about to say more but she was interrupted by a crashing sound from Dad's side of the call. "Is everything alright?" Father asked, concern clear and evident in his voice.

Bel watched as Dad twisted around so that they couldn't see his face but the back of his spiky blue hair. Wait, Bel thought as an idea popped into his head. One that answered a question he'd long had, Is that why everyone calls him Sonic the Hedgehog?

"Yeah, everything's fine, I think," Dad said. His voice didn't make it sound like anything was wrong. He just seemed a little confused. "Mr. Midnight and Strix are sitting on the floor in front of me, and staring at me. It's juat a little odd. Nothing wrong."

There was a pause as the four of them collectively tried to figure out what was causing this oddness. It would appear Jamie came to the conclusion first. Bel could see her face become split between laughter and deep concern for her parent. "Um, Dad," The odd-eyed girl began, "Is it five minutes past when we normally feed the two of them."

Dad paused. You could see his face slowly realize the danger he was in. His eyes got wide and his mouth opened a little bit. Bel's dad wisely ducked down just in time for Strix to fly upto the counter where Dad had been heating up his food. The owl had landed in the bowl of food and, apparently, gripped about half of it in her claws before she flew away again. There Bel got a magificine noodles of pasta and some chicken hanging in owl talons.
