Back to the present of the future.

Okay. There was no reason to freak out. Jamie was just tired, and exhausted, and overreacting. She had not suddenly gotten possessed or anything like that. She had not become Red Eye. The fact that she was resisting the urge to call herself Minerva was simply the power of suggestion. And the trance-like dream that she'd had of herself battling all of the Underground Blader's beys wasn't what it seemed like.

As a matter of fact, that dream was likely caused by Jamie reaching out to her partner when the bey was sleeping. Minerva had likely accidentally shared her dream with her. Not that it had been Jamie's dream. Because she hadn't been the one battling. Because she was overreacting and she wasn't her bey.

Just focus on climbing this ladder, Jamie told herself. Don't think about how a part of you finds it weird to be in a human body. Don't think about how you can see in your pocket, the one where you keep your bey. Because none of those things were important. They were all power of suggestion. Because Jamie was overreacting.

The frigid desert air was barely enough to shock Jamie out of her cycle of realizing that something was different about her, and then telling herself it was the power of suggestion. Once the odd-eyed blader popped her head out of the fake sewer, she was assaulted by Vegas at night.

It was very, very bright. Much brighter than any city had a right to be. Especially after sundown. When Jamie looked up, all that she could see was light pollution, blocking out any of the stars. It was like a soupy syrup of light that obscured the whole universe. It was annoying, but also kind of the farthest thing from her mind right now.

Because the most pressing thing on Jamie's mind was her parents. It had clearly been more than the two and a half hours she'd and everyone else had been given to roam around. She couldn't even imagine what they were thinking right now. Or how scared they were. Once she hadn't shown up, they would have checked her phone, and probably seen where she had been. At the Underground Blader's hideout. Except they wouldn't have known that it was underground. So they would have gone there, and not have seen her.

Wow Jamie had probably caused them to panic.

With that realization, Jamie immediately understood that she needed to find the people who were looking for her. Not wasting a second, she turned around. The place that the Masked Blader had gone into the sewer was a small back alley that ended a few meters in. Hidden here was her backpack. The one that she used for storing her costume. Peeking behind the small pile of bricks, she was relieved to see it was still there.

Sure Jamie had hidden her book bag well, but nothing was ever certain.

Unclipping her cloak, Jamie stuffed that in the space themed bag. She liked space, so much of the stuff that she owned was space themed. Like her bed sheets. And make-up kit. And multiple notebooks that she used to write down everything from how to create a black hole to weird Romeo and Juliet themed stories. As, apparently, occasionally, Jamie would get really hooked on a story that she read for school.

The rest of the Masked Blader outfit had just been pulled on over Jamie's clothes, as she hadn't been able to find a good place to change. So it took approximately five seconds for her to put everything away. And only two more seconds for her to change Minerva back to being Athena.

How Jamie did so was simple. All it took was flipping the top layer over, and her bey had swapped. What she refused to recognize was how she felt a subtle shift within her when doing so. Because that was nothing more than her picking up on Athena being a bit different through her bond. Not that she had changed from being Minerva to Athena. That was dumb.
