Chapter 27

5 minutes after sitting down, Mason arrived. Our eyes caught each other as he walked by me to go and get his food.

Once he had done so, he returned and sat next to me. We shared a somewhat pleasant conversation with each other as I waited for the rest of Levi squad to return.

"I saw you running around checking the restraints, how do those things even work?" I said.

"They lock the titans into a fixed position."

"A fixed position?"

"Mhm."

"How does that even work?!"

"No clue."

I laughed as he continued talking,

"I saw you kill that titan, it was incredible."

"Incredible? I think that's a bit of a stretch."

"It was though! You struck that thing down with one slice!"

"Yeah but to be fair I was in a bit of a rush to kill it," I said rubbing the back of my head, "I still have no clue how I didn't notice the thing earlier."

"At least you killed it, if it had actually reached us it would have been a nightmare."

"Yeah, it would have."

10 minutes of talking later, Levi squad arrived back. Levi was the first to approach me, he basically climbed on top of me. He wrapped his arms firmly around my neck as he seated himself on my lap.

I was confused, he never normally did these things in public due to his reputation, so why now?

"Where were you? I went to your post but you weren't there." He said to me.

"I was close to base so I decided to come here, I thought you would too." I said wrapping my arms around his waist, "there's no need to be worried about me."

"I wasn't worried asshole." He said somewhat loudly, "I was wondering where you were."

Levi then rested his head on my shoulder close to my ear, "I have every right to be worried when you randomly disappear after you got kidnapped." He whispered to me.

I hugged him tighter, "I promise you I won't get kidnapped again." I whispered to him.

I then turned my head and noticed Levi and Mason glaring daggers at each other. Something was definitely wrong with the two of them.

"Ash do you want to eat with me in the forest?" Levi asked removing his head from my shoulder.

I nodded then turned to Mason saying goodbye. Levi removed himself from me walking towards where the food was to get his share.

When he came back, we both walked into the forest away from everyone else. Levi seemed to know where he was going as he weaved skillfully between the trees, me following behind him trying not to lose him.

Eventually, we reached a small clearing in the trees, small enough to where leaves and branches occupied the area above our heads, only letting in sunlight from the small gaps between them. Flowers bloomed from bushes at the bases of the trees with butterflies and bees flying between them.

I looked to see a small blanket resting on the floor, leaves covering it. Levi walked towards a tree where a broom leant against it. He cleared the dust from the broom, then using it to sweep away the leaves from the blanket.

"What is this place?" I asked him as I walked forward to join Levi sat on the blanket.

"I found it on a mission here years ago, before I was a captain. I came here whenever I could to escape everyone." He said as he took his gear off, me doing the same and setting it down beside his.
