This is one of the best chapters of this book 🫣 in my opinion 🥲

I've never been high but I had fun writing in Roman's perspective 🥹

It was like being caught between two completely different worlds.

On one hand, you had my father pressuring me with cartel business that I was desperately trying to get right so that he was confident I could take over.

On the other hand, you had my mother and my future wife who wouldn't leave me alone about wedding stuff.

So, one minute I was discussing a drug deal and sampling the quality of our product - which is always my favourite part of the job. Then the next minute I was being forced to go to a cake tasting with flowers and sparkly shit everywhere.

"Sorry I'm late, baby." I gave Izzy a lazy smile but she glared at me in the entry hall of my parent's house.

Wordlessly, she opened the front door so that we could leave.

It was only when I passed her on the way out the door that she caught a whiff of the marijuana I'd just been sampling.

It was good, by the way.

Very good.

It was like getting head and a massage at the same time, but with an overwhelming sense of calm. The same kind of calm you get when you eat a bar of chocolate.

Weed just makes you let go, bro. Let go of all your grudges.

"Roman! Are you high right now?" She grabbed my hand to stop me, her words coming out hushed and through gritted teeth. She brought her hand to my cheek, forcing me to look her in the eye.

My red eyes were probably a dead give away so I closed them to hide them from her.

"Not really. Maybe. I could be."

"We have a cake tasting!"

"And I'm coming with you, aren't I?" I couldn't help but roll my eyes even though they were closed, taking my car keys out my pocket.

"Oh." When my hand came up empty, I opened my eyes and now she seemed even more pissed - somehow that was possible.

She was like the red guy from Inside Out.

I watched that with Catalina.

"You forgot your keys?"

"They're in my office, somewhere." Shaking her head, she pushed me aside so that she could head back into the house.

"I'm coming with you. I don't trust you not to smoke anymore."

This time I chose to stay quiet so that I didn't upset her anymore. Otherwise she might become the crying blue girl from Inside Out.
