"If you're interested in putting down an offer on any of the houses we viewed today just let me know. Oppositely, if you want to view more houses, I can arrange that for you too." Yuna shook Taehyun's hand enthusiastically, then shook Youngmi's with just as much vigour.
"We'll have a think, thank you Yuna." Taehyun replied, receiving a bright smile from the woman.
All of a sudden, Yuna started looking around, trying to make it seem as natural as possible, but it came off quite frantic. She let out a sigh, as her eyes fell on the front door of the house they just viewed. Kai was only now coming out, locking the door behind him, he walked over to the trio.
He threw his arm over Taehyun's shoulder. "You free for a drink tonight?"
"Mr Huening!" Yuna gasped, dropping her perfect smile. "I apologize for his unprofessionalism."
"He's my cousin Yuna, calm down." Kai didn't seem phased, turning back to Taehyun. "So, got an answ-" He didn't get to finish, being yanked away by Yuna.
They could hear her scolding him from a few feet away.
"Mr Huening it doesn't matter if he's your cousin. We've talked about this before, there's a thin line between charming the customers, and being unprofessional. Don't you want to be taken seriously in this business?"
"I'll leave being serious up to you."
"Mr Huening!"
Taehyun couldn't help but laugh. He felt bad for Yuna, but Kai just wasn't the type to listen. He was going to continue being his unprofessional self, and there was nothing she could do about it.
There was no point in listening in, for all he knew, they could be here all day. He finally had Youngmi beside him again, and he couldn't waste this opportunity to speak to her.
The woman had her eyes glued to the gravel driveway, looking far from happy to be here. It sent a guilty pang to his heart, knowing that he was the cause of her distress. He felt regretful for that day. It was a sensitive situation, but he knew he overreacted.
"Youngmi." He said with a soft voice.
She hummed a yes, keeping her eyes fixed downward.
"I'm sorry about the other day, I-"
"We should end this Taehyun."
The woman was almost shaking, slowly lifting her head to look at Taehyun. Her eyes were glassy, as if tears could fall at any moment. She gulped down the lump in her throat, while Taehyun found his mouth dry, unable to speak.
"There was once a time where being together was the only way you and I could be happy, but we've reached our limit Tae. Now we're just being unfair to ourselves."
Solace.
That was what Youngmi was to him. In this horrible world, they found comfort in each other. Neither of their lives could be as they wished, but from their union, they could at least experience a fraction of the happiness they deserved.
Unfortunately, they were on borrowed time. That small amount of happiness they once cherished, was just not enough anymore. They both knew it, and they were both terrified to admit it. They had reached the end of the road, it was all a matter of accepting the truth.
