Everyone thinks that they know Billy, Full name William James Hargrove, age 16 moves with his little sister Max. In the car that Billy was driving in Max looked at a house that had horses and a big house with lots of people. "Billy?" Her voice was so annoying to him. So he snaps at her.
"What?"
"Do you think that we will live in a house like that one day?"
"No, our parents aren't rich like that. Why do you care if we live like that anyways?"
"I'm just asking you don't have to be so rude about it."
Billy didn't want is so-called little sister to be around his father and besides anyone wanting to marry his dad. So he would do all the driving that has to involve her. At times he really didn't mind it. Like for school wise it was there last week of summer before school would start and his birthday was around the corner. No friends, which he had about maybe two friends at the last school.
"Well don't ask stupid questions that you know the answers too."
"Sorry." Quickly shutting down before they could even fight. They were neighbors to the people who lived in the great big house. With a sharp turn they had arrived at their new home far away from California. They met their parents at the new house and it was big enough for four people to live there.
Unloading the truck one of their new neighbors came down to introduce themselves. "Hello there." The four of them looked at this older man along with a younger woman. "My name is Mr.Portland and this is my granddaughter Anastasia."
Max smiled a little bit. "Like the princess?"
"Well I'm no princess, but yes like her." Her smile was soft and warm. Like anyone could come to her and put all their worries away. That made Max feel safe a tad. Away from her new family, she loves her mom... but forcing them to move out and then pushing her dad away from them Max was alone.
"Cool!"
Mr.Portland continues. "We are having dinner in a little while and we thought only if you wanted to join us. Since you all may be tried from a long drive."
"We don't own anything fancy." Neil didn't think it was such a great idea.
"Who said anything about fancy. Come as you are. We don't care." Clearing her throat he also said. "Don't let our big house fool you. It's nothing but a big house anyways."
"We will think about it." Susan said. "My name is Susan and this is my husband Neil and our children, Billy and Max."
"Nice to meet all of you. Please do stop by if you can."
When they had left Neil looked at his wife. "I don't think we should go. We can have our own meal."
"Honey they are just trying to be nice and plus we will get a free meal out of it.."
"Fine, we'll go. Just to be nice."
Dinner was at six and they all sat around the table outside eating Bbq chicken or burger whatever food that they had out there they could have. "You have a beautiful home." Said Susan.
"Thank you I built all of this through blood sweat and tears." Mr. Portland looked around this place. "Max whenever you or your brother ever want to come over and ride even your mother you may."
Knowing that none of them would take her, she faked a smile. "Thank you."
Anastasia looked at Max as well. "Or if they can't you can always ask to see if I'm home. Any of you. We all just want someone to tag along in case someone else gets thrown off. Not that happens we all want to be safe."
Now that was a little bit more like it. "Will do."
Susan spoke. "When she is done with her homework."
"Yes of course, school work always comes first." Anastasia said.
Anastasia took Max and Billy around the barn and let the grown ups talk. "Sorry for my papa.."
"Why?" Max was looking around. "This is such a nice place."
"He can be over burying at times when he doesn't mean to be. Why don't you two tell me about yourselves?"
"No worries." Looking at her older brother Billy who was never shy around girls wonder why he hasn't said much to her or anyone in that matter. "Do you like living here?"
"I do. But I don't live here all the time, I go with my dad from time to time."
"Does he not want you?" Max asked.
"MAX." Billy mutters loudly under his breath.
Anastasia smiled as she looked at both of them. "It's okay, I get that all the time. And the truth is my dad gave custody to papa when I was very young and I don't see him as much. Sometimes not at all because he is so busy. Sometimes I feel like he doesn't. But papa tells me otherwise."
"Well I'm nine and I love to skateboard." Still nothing from Billy. "Billy is 16 and loves to fix his car." The only other way to discribe him.
Anastasia listened in on what she had to say. "You know I never had a chance to try skateboard. I'm a chicken when it comes to pain."
"It's so much fun."
"We will have to do a trade then, a lesson for horseback riding."
"Could we?"
"I don't see why not? You have to do homework first before you come down."
"Sounds fun. Doesn't it Billy."
"Yeah sure." It wasn't that he was trying to be mean to Anastasia by means, he just missed home. He'll get over it one day, but right now isn't the time too.
Coming back to the grown ups the family had left while butlers cleaned up the mess and Anastasia helped as well. "Well that was fun at the park." Meaning it really didn't go well.
"Max seems nice."
"Did Billy talk to you?"
"No. He just listen, I think he and his family are just a little home sick that's all."
"For now."
