Coming out from the outhouse, things didn't look to bad from the party last night. Anastasia glanced at Billy. "Did you have a good time?"
"It was fine. But I got bored at the end and came up there to be with you."
"How sweet." Entering the house. No messes in the house only outside. People started to clean up. "I bet Shelly was really hurt."
"Who cares, it was a one time fling that was okay, but to tell you the truth she got bored of me real fast." Billy got out some food and started to cook for them.
"Wow Billy Hargrove know how to cook."
"Shut up."
He put a cigarette in mouth as he was about to light, Anastasia threw it to the table. "You know the rules no smoking in the house."
Soft chuckle, as he began to smile. "Your lucky that you are cute and that this is your house."
"Yeah right cute? You are fooling yourself Billy. And yes I am. So what is the plan for breakfast then?"
"Well we got eggs...I have no idea what that is.."Holding out a jar.
Anastasia starts to laugh. "That's rhubarb jam."
"Really? Hmm.. might have to leave that out." He list the items as he showed her. Nothing sounded like a breakfast would be put together.
"Billy?"
"Yeah?"
"Let's go out for breakfast. I'll buy."
"I'm not letting a girl buy."
"Well what you listed didn't sound anything like breakfast and besides you treated me the last time. Why cant I treat you?"
"Okay what do you have in mind?"
"Denny's."
"Alright let's go."
1979 Chevrolet Camaro, Billy arrived at Denny's with Anastasia. It was more what they both knew that they wanted. He wanted someone who he could count on in life. And Anastasia just wanted to know that she could be capable of someone loving her.
Coffee, French toast, eggs and waffles. Being left alone to their own thoughts. Being vulnerable Billy confessed about his mother. "My mother left because of him."
No one was in the restaurant other then three very old people. Anastasia gears up to listen, she wanted to know. Once he shut her down and never asked about her again. Starring into his eyes she was listening so closely to him.
"I was right when she left. I'd called every night to come and get me or at least get me for the day. The answer was 'I'll see or next time I promise.' those days never came, calls came less every time that she stopped calling. I never got to say goodbye to her."
"Oh Billy."
"We always had fun her and I. Surfing, playing board games, car rides. Just the two of us. When I was with her all my troubles with Neil went away. I wish had taken me." Stirring his coffee with a spoon. "But I do blame Susan for a lot of things."
"Billy. It's not your fault what happened between your parents. I hate saying this, if you mom did take you with her, as much as I would want the same. I would had never got to meet you."
"I think I would had been a different man than I am now."
"People like you for you Billy. And if they don't, well I do. They just haven't the Billy that I know."
"And what am I to you then, hmm?"
"From what I can see, sure you don't have to like your step mom and sister, but you would stand in front of them in a heart beat. You are a caring guy that nobody cares to see. Unless my eyes deceived me. People are shitty hell even I am. You have to be a tough guy around your- Niel or anyone else that you want them to see."
"Do you think I am shitty?"
"At times, but like I said we are all shitty people even when we try to be good."
"Your not shitty like I am."
"Well that is because my papa taught me how to act not shitty but do shitty. I dunno, he learned that saying from a pal long ago. Besides the point Billy, I am shitty, sure not like you. But you can learn Billy. We all can." Waitress started to bring some coffee. They both wanted more until their food came out. "Anyways. Have you tried to look for her?"
"I did when I heard that I was moving, not here but to another place. I didn't want to move because what if she came back and wanted me. By the time I hit 13 I knew that she was never coming for me. So you are right, I started fights, got into a whole lot of trouble. I hated being the bad guy, but I wanted him to notice me and maybe he would be proud of me and he would stop being so hurtful to me." He chuckles. "Look at me bitching away like a little boy."
"Billy stop. For real. You are being honest with me and that is not what you are doing. You are telling me something that I asked about three days ago."
He chuckles again. "If your mom was normal wouldn't you want her to take you?"
"My mom was full of cancer by the time I was born Billy. She did so much damage to Joe, if Joe was still the way that my papa remembers him. Yeah I'd be with him in a heart beat. Yet again we wouldn't have met if our parents didn't hurt us they way that they have."
Food came along as the we're both done talking about their parents past life.
