Shun sighed. Everyone around him felt stagnant and lifeless tonight, but especially the ambiance of the police station. It was horribly boring. And if he added the case he had to work on on top of it, then it was just like a melted, warm cake.
He irked his face at his thoughts, later shaking his head. Jiayi saw him be weirded out on his own and decided to sit by his side. "Did you think of stealing a food vendors hot dogs and throwing them out of a cliff to feed the dead?"
Shun shook his head, sighing. "I just don't understand why Duyi is doing this. There is something that he is not telling. I can just feel it." Jiayi nodded as he began to hum a melody. And as it reached its climax, he took a red file from his pants and slapped it on the table. "And here you go. I knew you would be baffled, so i went in and searched for Duyi's past records."
Shun's lips curled up as he opened the file, only to find it empty. "...are you fucking joking right now?" Jiayi smiled as he made a whole turn and whipped out another file. "Well, apparently the guy has a drastically clean record despite being a CEO. So i decided to go over the files of the person who is closest to him. Meaning-"
"He did have a brother.." Jiayi hummed. "And what do you know. His file is as thick as a wooden wall." Shun quickly opened to check what was inside it, turning the pages as he changed expressions every time. So the latter sat back down and tapped on the files. "You can find everything in here. From theft, all the way to committed murder. And the funny things is, he was always let out from charge with payment."
Shun furrowed his brows. "Meaning?" Jiayi turned to a specific page and tapped on a number. "So i checked his income to see if he was able to afford it. But-"
"The paid amount is much more than the interest rate." Jiayi smiled at his words. "Exactly. So his boss- being, Zhou Duyi, hasn't been compensating him enough for the job. Yet every time there was an involvement with the police, he was almost immediately pulled out of the case."
Shun tilted his head with an inhale of his newly lit cigarette. "Then his brother is the one who paid for him, it's obvious. Did you find his accounting history?" Jiayi leaned back and crossed his arms. "I tried- but you know the policy here. I even went to his company with my badge- yet the stingy bastards wouldn't let me access their system."
Shun leaned back as well, now rubbing his head while the cigarette smoke brushed onto his nose. They stood silent like that for a bit, neither of them getting the urge to come up with a complicatedly good plan to find out the truth.
Their eyes met, and as if having had communicated in that silence, both of them were suddenly back on their feet. "Ready to interrogate?"
"I'll turn off the cameras."
"Then i'll take him to the room."
With that, both were back on track once more.
Meanwhile, Yibo was back inside his cell, watching as Zixin nervously tried to talk. "I heard you brought in the evidence." Zixin hummed. "Yeah. I just saw them bring in the keys a while ago. So... after tracing the fingerprints, they should get a better lead on the case." Yibo nodded. "And how about Zhan? I thought he was with you."
Zixin sucked in his breath as he scratched the back of his head. "Well.. things happened. He was feeling really unwell- and threw up all over the place, can you believe it?" He chuckled after that, waiting for the latter to join in too. Yet Yibo was silent, far from having a smile. "He's sick and you're telling me about it so late because...?" Zixin shook it off. "Doesn't matter- everyone gets sick-"
