!!TW!! Very minor discussion of prison hierarchy and CSA
The kitten was dwarfed in his arms but that seemed to make Tengen even happier, his smile blooming even wider. Hinatsuru was sitting on the couch, closest to her husband as she tried to bribe Suika to come closer to her. However, the dog hadn't left Genya's side since the moment he came back home. Suika had sniffed the boy's tear-damp face and decided to situate himself on Genya's lap with no intention of moving.
"She is so stinking cute!" Tengen cooed, rubbing the kitten's chin as she purred. She was content to stay in the man's arms, only opening her eyes a couple of times to check on her animal companion. "If you told me a while ago that Sanemi would ever agree to own a cat, I would have laughed. Never pegged you for a kitten kinda guy."
"Oh, shut it." Sanemi rolled his eyes, sitting beside his brother. The man had also done the same as the dog, not leaving Genya's side the moment they came home. It almost made the child snicker at how similar Suika, and Sanemi were. Though, he was sure it would annoy the man if he ever said it.
"It's still really awesome that you rescued them, Shinazugawa" Hinatsuru smiled, leaning over to pet the kitten since Suika wasn't interested in her. "Typically, people just kind of ignore strays."
"I bet Giyuu was shell shocked when you showed up with two animals, though." Tengen laughed and Genya could only agree.
"It did kind of scare him." The boy guiltily said, his fingers brushing over Suika's coat. The dog huffed, laying his heavy head in the crook of the boy's elbow.
"Yeah, Giyuu's not very good with animals." Hinatsuru chuckled, cooing when Yuka opened her eyes to look at the woman. "How's Giyuu doing, anyway?"
The room paused, turning to look at Sanemi for an answer. The man seemed confused before he started to flush a pinkish color in the face. Genya slimmed his eyes at his brother, trying to read the expression as Suika huffed. The man hesitated, growing more irritated as Tengen's smile stretched wider.
"Yeah Sanemi, How's Giyuu doing?"
"Why the hell are you asking me!?" Sanemi hissed, leaning forward before slumping back and Genya watched in amusement as his brother mumbled. "It's not like I care about that stupid bastard."
"Well, you have been leaning on him a lot lately." Tengen let his wife hold the kitten, using his recently freed hands to count on his fingers. "You two were attached at the hip at the hospital. He comes over to 'babysit' Genya. You two have even been working late to catch up on paperwork together. Plus, he's always the one you go to when you need your class covered."
"Oh, fuck off! It's all about convenience, you hear me? Convenience ." Sanemi huffed, his ears turning redder by the second and Genya recognized the flush as embarrassment. Sanemi always blushed whenever he was caught red-handed, ever since they were younger. "And don't pin this on me! Tomioka's the one who stayed at the hospital of his own free will! And–And he volunteers to watch Genya and stay late and all that junk!"
"Oh, and that's why you moved in next to him, is it? Convenience?" Sanemi was about to blow a fuse if Tengen kept this up.
"No! That one was a coincidence!" Genya liked this; it was funny to watch Sanemi bicker with his friends. Genya wondered if he would ever get to this point with his own, but for now it was fun to just watch. "I didn't know we'd be neighbors when I got this place."
"But you've been to his house..."
"I didn't remember what fucking number he lived in!"
"Then couldn't you have just...I don't know, asked him?" Tengen shrugged, willfully ignoring the fuming face on his friend. His pink eyes focused on Sanemi's, and he smiled again. "You can't deny that Giyuu's been rather present in your life lately."
